Meet Bollinger Bands, a powerful tool for traders.
Developed by John Bollinger in the 1980s, it consists of three lines. The middle line is the simple moving average, typically set to 20 periods, and smoothens price data to identify the trend. The upper and lower bands show volatility, and are plotted usually 2 standard deviations away from the moving average. When prices are near the upper band, the asset is considered overbought; and when the prices are near the lower band, it's considered oversold.
