Formed in Wolverhampton in 1966, Slade's chart career spanned 3 decades. Slade were unstoppable throughout the seventies becoming one of Europe's biggest bands, releasing 6 smash hit albums, including three No-1’s, and their hit singles are synonymous with the era. The sensational songwriting partnership of Noddy Holder and Jim Lea provided a soundtrack to the Glam Generation and with a run of 17 consecutive Top 20 singles between 1971 and 1976, no other act of the period experienced such success.

In the eighties Slade enjoyed a renaissance, buoyed by a spectacular appearance at the Reading Festival in 1980, their hits included “My oh My”, which reached number 2 in 1983 and a year later with “Run Runaway”, cementing their legacy as one of the UK’s greatest bands.

I'm here thanks to that "BEHS" guy.
This song rocks. Can't believe I'd never heard it before. I love music from this era.

Highly underrated when it was released, it has only been in recent years been given the credit it deserved and is arguably one of the greatest songs Slade ever produced. Noddy's vocal delivery is stunning with a deeply moving soulful melancholy interspersed with the great rasping power he was so famous for. It was such a different and unique song from anything the band had done before. It is a timeless masterpiece and certainly one of the best songs of the seventies.

Loved Slade in the 1970s then many years later discovered that one of my best friends grew up in Wolverhampton and went out with Noddy ... she always said he was lovely and when she died, far too young a few months ago, her family played a Slade track at the celebration...makes me think of her every time I listen to it. What an underrated group...these are all classics

Shoutout to Jimmy Lea, bassist, who wrote such great numbers like this. He gave the band such otherwise improbable depth.

Like something Harrison or McCartney would have written at the peak of their powers. Very Beatlesque. Couldn’t believe it was Slade when I first heard it.

I saw the film and it reminded me of starting a rock band when i was young.
We were called Montreux and we had big dreams as young people usually do.

I wish more young people were listening. If only the current crop of aspiring artists understood where music comes from. Not from computers, that's for sure. It was never meant to be that way. Find your inspiration from the feeling you get from playing a genuine instrument. Get good at it and find other people who have done the same. Create something magical. Like Slade did. Real music needs to circle back around. ☮️

Hey, they were right. "Many years from now there will be new sensations, and new temptations...new elations and new frustrations...newer poisons and new horizons...new tomorrow and still some sorrows." All came true.
