I am riding a gravel bike with 42mm tires. I had a similar situation with a much smaller puddle. I drove right through the middle of it. But it had been raining for several days beforehand and the ground was very soggy. My front wheel slipped immediately when I rode into the puddle. I was only just able to avoid a fall. In situations like this, almost every wheel would probably have slipped.

Relaxed geometry and discs he's most of the way there. I manage on the mud with 28mm Gatorskins and I'm on rim brakes. It's confidence he needs.

No, it's good to do some footwork when you're cycling.
Do you recall Lance Armstrong in the french Alps.
On a descent he lost control of his bike, ran downhill his bike on his back, crossing a field, managed to get back on track.
He did not ask for a gravel bike.
