How I Evaluate YouTube Growth and Set 2018 Goals

It's time to evaluate last year's YouTube channel performance and set some goals for 2018. Here's the process I use and how I reached the goals I have. Hopefully it'll help you evaluate your own channel and set your own YouTube goals for next year.

I know how it feels when you can't do what you want to do.I was out for 2 months because of the Hurricane Irma and Maria. Left us with no light, internet or water but most of my subscribers were still there, writing to me constantly. This help me to work harder. I would love to see a story arc of you mentoring someone to success on YouTube, either a new channel, or someone who never really got any momentum. It would be fun to have it be like a weekly or biweekly update with you and the person, showing what has changed and what the next steps would be. It would be a great bingable series after it is done, and a great ad for hiring you for your services. I keep crossing my fingers that Darryl Eves has something like this planned with that group he created at his conference. But how about you mentor me, and we give him a run for his money on who is the more charismatic group, lol.

You can tell stories that will help us grow by featuring a range of small, middle-sized and tiny channels in Real Life Stories on how a small channel grows. When I worked as a journalist on magazines (Good Housekeeping etc) the most popular reads were always the real life stories. Maybe a 20 minute coaching conversation with you (not necessarily live), after which the featured channel implements your recommendations. A few weeks/months later you go back to them to find out what the results have been. You could filter the applicants by devising some kind of entry test, so you can sort out those who are serious about growing their YouTube channel. And if you do, I'd love to apply.

Hey Tim curious whether or not it would it be considered optimizing if you made your average runtime the same as your average watch time in analytics? For ex. I set a 10 min rule due to the additional ads but my average watch time is 5 minutes. Views currently on a downward slope & looking to reverse course w/this method.
