Great trip. Just good to get out. I've had my horse go for a "walk" before!! Grain in a can, can get them coming back. I say a good sleeping bag and you can enjoy the period stuff better. I'm sitting in my hut, in my sleeping bag, making coffee on the one burner @25 d/F, watching you do the same thing!! Awesome.

You could always make you a fart sack Is kinda a civil war thing you take a gum blanket and blankets and hemp or grass string and make an improvised bedroll pretty handy actually and light weight just thought Id help

Awesome video! For the shoulder seasons when it’s cold I think using some modern comfort items to still get outside is worth it. I believe your horse is missing being around other horses, and that’s why she was wanting to follow the elk, she’s quite keyed up watching something in the distance, and not in a “predator?” look. I’m thinking she will be less inclined to wander once you add another riding horse to keep her company.

As many wool blankets as i can bring its always miserable. I used to bring 4 which is alot would still be miserable. One camping trip years ago i brought a sleeping bag because i had nothing to hold all my blankets. Slept like a baby every night. Every time i go camping witu my friend, im always getting 1-2 hours of sleep compared to him sleeping all night in his bag. And what sucks is the blankets are definitely warmer but the little sleeping bag does so much better

Great overnighter and great setup. Nothing like early morning cardio lol. Could the cold you were feeling be caused by not enough ground insulation? You had a lot of blankets. I know I've not used enough ground insulation and froze by a** off even though I had a sleeping bag that was good for at least 20' colder.

Thanks for the interesting video. Just an idea: what if you got some fur, in particular a bison hide blanket, to keep you warmer at night. I think that would be period correct and might really keep you extremely warm. If I'm not mistaken, isn't that what the Native Americans used when it was cold?
