As a former Montana guide, I'd also bring a small air mattress (like the ones you float on in a pool), it creates a GREAT layer of isolation from the cold ground! Try it, you'll be glad you did. NEVER FORGET, disposable lighter in each pocket, your backpack and coat pocket. This is 2021, NO excuses for not being able to make a fire! Camp safe

My favorite way for 40 years. You have full pack access, also, a framed pack makes this work better. Old school, less hassles. 😎

Some folks are saying bedroll on top, but I am with you on this. When I am backcountry, it's nice to keep bedding low and out of the way of accessing the pack quickly and easily on the trail. Don't have to rummage around the bedroll to get at stuff in the pack. It can be important to be efficient when in cold and wet conditions.
As usual, a slick, short, to the point video with stuff we might take for granted but that can be important on the trail. Nice job!

You've got a talent for relating things in a manner that's easy for people to understand.
Keep up the good work!

Yup a duh moment for some of us. The reminder about keeping the fold downward is a good one.

Good video!

A 10 liter dry bag works great for me! Also gives me the option of carrying other goods in the bag once roll is in use.... even water!

Did Civil War reenacting for a while which had some elements of bush crafting in it with the primitive camping style. We always carried our blankets the way the original soldiers did. On top of the knapsack.

At 01:25 Dan says, "When I tell ya, you're gonna be like, 'ah, man, that was like a no-brainer.'" That was my exact thought, too. I learned much of my bushcrafting skills in Southeast Alaska, where it rains like 200 days out of the year. Under those conditions you quickly learn how to pack your gear so it doesn't get wet. I guess those kind of lessons become so ingrained in our habits that we forget some people may not know this stuff.

Love waxed cloth; sometimes the old stuff is better. Looks like you have waxed cloth pants, as well. Do you wax them yourself?

Nice setup! did you sleep outside with only that blanket and tarp to keep warm? Or did you build a shelter as well? Either case as an outdoorsman in Norway I'm impressed. All the best! :)

I've been keeping a bedroll in my car as part of my preps for 3 1/2 years and it's been the most utilized item. I use it when I go on hikes, at lunch to sit on and relax, taking my nieces and nephews to the park, as a pillow.
The list goes on and on.

This definitely the best way to haul sleep gear! Love your old-school setup. I use backpacks with Molles on the bottom - love 5.11 quickstraps.

I do kind of the same except I use a poncho a foam pad and blanket . the foam is to keep the cold from conducting through the ground or even the bottom of my hammock if I use it . I don't need an under quilt that way. if I have a tarp I like to keep it protected as possible from ripping on thorns, branches etc. ponchos are a bit cheaper to replace .

For my bushcraft, I use small military surplus rucksack. Roll blanket wool blanket with poncho on the outside carried under my ruck. And then a haversack. Military surplus. I don’t always take the blanket when the weather gets warm. I do use a heavy duty space blanket and poncho. I try to go as light as possible, don’t like to carry large bulky packs anymore. Great video. Alan R.

I love all your videos, but an actual camp and cook would be epic.

Totally understand likeing one pack. 2 or more packs get to be hassle. Have done several, but cut down alot. Really like your bedroll.

Someone once suggested adding a empty pillow case to the bed roll to improvise something to rest your head on. If it was you Dan it's a great idea that takes up no extra room.

Fold your corners in like an envelope at the end of the roll to really secure against the water. Keeps rain from trickling in on the edges.
