Anti-bullying activist Lizzie Velásquez on how self-love changed her life

Anti-bullying advocate Lizzie Velasquez found that scrolling through timelines during the pandemic started to have a negative impact on her self-esteem. It was a difficult period for the motivational speaker, who had been dealing with a lifetime of bullying due to a rare health condition called neonatal progeroid syndrome. Today, Velazquez has participated in TedTalks, published children’s books, and become a public figure who encourages young people to practice confidence and self-love. Velazquez says she is “on a mission to remind people that no matter how different you are, you are meant to be in this world, and being different is unique.”

It doesn’t matter how you look, it matters how feel, because I’m a 9 year old and I am in the frorth grade. I’m autistic, I have asthma, and a lot of times people think I’m stupid and don’t belong just because I’m autistic. My big brother is the same and a LOT of people don’t think he belongs, but I’m still feeling good about myself, sure people don’t like me for who I am, but I’m still standing. People are beautiful in meny types of was and anyone, and I say anyone can change the world. So no matter what happens, keep on standing.
