One benefit to shopping in person is being able to browse the clearance and sale racks for deals. Many large supermarkets will sell bakery items that are at or close to the sell by date for 50% for instance.

Yes to unit prices! It’s insane how many people don’t understand that 🤦‍♀️

Some places offer curbside for “free” but the products are actually marked up by $.25/item.

Couple of other hints:
1. Learn about food quality because buying the cheapest by unit price without respect for quality will eventually affect your health adversely which will be extremely expensive.
2. Invest in a small chest freezer so when high quality items are dicounted you can buy more and freeze for later.

Important tip about using curb-side pick-up:
Do NOT buy fresh produce or loose items where they scoop, bag, and weigh (candy, coffee, spices).
Depending on how the item is sold (weight vs number of units), you could get more than what you asked for or less. The people collecting the items are trying to get through as many orders as possible and often don't have time (or pay) to care enough to check for ripeness.
When it comes to self-bagged items like candy, nuts, spices, and coffee, they don't weigh it. They toss in whatever and move on. The issue of cross-contamination is also a problem, but people who need to worry about that already know that.

I’ve followed your shorts for a while. Quite helpful, thanks!
Also, I’ve raised 10 children, (now a single working parent) on some meager, at times, income. Regardless of income, my food shopping habits are fairly consistent. I try to batch cook one afternoon per week, freeze extras, use a menu plan, buy an addition to my bulk foods emergency storage each week, and do also find your tip to do curbside very valuable. The most impactful thing to the budget has to be menu planning. Don’t buy what you don’t need. I also plan for treats, a meal out weekly and carry a snack in my purse, with my water bottle to avoid the "on the road " expense buying drinks and granola bars, etc.
Blessings 🙏🏻✨ and keep those tips coming🥰

Only buy what's on sale. Aldi is small with limited choices but healthy options. Keep it simple and quick.

One trick I've being seeing in a few stores here in Canada is that one brand's price tag will have the price per unit but it might be missing in the comparable product you so have to do the math yourself. I've also seen cases where the unit of measurement is different between two comparable products. So one might be price per pound, for example, while the other is price per kilogram. So shady.

Using Fetch and Ibotta are huge helps!!!

be cautious with unit prices though. at my local Walmart they are wrong 90% of the time. its often better to calculate them yourself. price ÷units given on package. I've found that my local Walmart will have anything from serving price to just random numbers.

THANK YOU for not just giving us bs like “cook from scratch more”.

I love ordering my groceries online. I find I spend less, even with additional fees, because I can see the total as I shop, meal plan better, and remove impulse buys easier instead of just throwing it on the conveyor belt because it’s too far to walk back to where I got it.

Online prices r higher than in store.
Also, online stores don’t list the least expensive brands, but will only have their brand and higher end as the online option

Be careful with ibotta, to me it seemed they only gave cash back on items I would never buy in the first place.

Eat before you go. Shop with a calculator so u don't overspend and maximize budget. Bring a basic shopping list but leave room for sale items. Some stores show how much an egg is out of that dozen or flat . U can see if ur spending 11cents or 30cents an egg to compare whats best. You can see what 100g is worth of the item compared to another. Buy portion of comfort or junk food, it helps decrease fast food runs. Big one for my house is meal prep 6 meals a week so if something comes up I dont feel inclined to order in. Don't often buy pre made meals they often cost more versus making them at home. Think of meal fillers eg barely more veg and gains i know many dont like them but when ur low on meat or beans a empty stomach makes a sad and grumpy person.

We just share a Costco membership with a whole bunch of people. No one is checking it. My parents pay the executive price and they get all that money back in May, which pays the cost and then some. Plus, I can use my food stamps there and have TONS of healthy foods for the entire month.

I disagree with the curbside If you are getting any produce. You need to be able to check the quality of the vegetables that you were purchasing. I have known many people that have gotten nearly rotten fruit and vegetables. When it's selected by one of the staff of the store. They aren't going to sell those items to savvy customers so why not pound it off on the the customers that aren't looking at their vegetables

1. Go through your pantry and fridge to clear out expired items and clean up
2. Make a list of what you'll need and check out online shopper to see what's on sale
3. Do not grocery shop while hungry
4. Make sure to have your reusable bags with you

Yes my local grocery store recently had like $30 off a $75 pick up order. I’ve also seen lots of coupons on Amazon fresh. If you have Amazon prime then you can get free delivery. But I live in Chicago so it’s easier for me to shop at different stores to get the best prices.

Unit price was something I learned as a kid and taught my friends in college. They were baffled when I explained that the "more expensive" tissues were actually the better deal because you got 50% more product for a difference of about ten cents.
