I work in corporate, cybersecurity. If you want to be a cog in a machine and play the corporate game, this is a great way to do so.
Alternatively, the less people you meet, the more lowkey you become, you become less “intertwined” in the politics and corporate ass kissing,
I’ve done the 2nd, I feel a sense of inner peace knowing I really don’t care about John from marketing, Jacob the director or Bart the mentor. I let the performance, numbers, stats, and quota speak for themselves when it’s end of quarter or time for reviews.
Pro tip- Just don’t be a clown at work.
Pro tip 2- remember, your work will fill your position in a heartbeat if you died. Those mf’s don’t care bout you.

I think this is a great way to network and learn more from all those around you. Some people might not be open to it in your company but so what, keeping trying and be the driver of your success!

I had an internship where everyone was assigned a mentor but I never arranged a meeting cuz I never wanted it. Ended up the only one with a full-time offer.

Connections with other people might help but the most important factor is your work. I would say connecting with the right people at the right time for the right amount of time is the way to go.

We used to have annual meeting with our manager’s manager (to have open and transparent discussions on reviewing our manager’s performance), that is no longer a thing this year :(
It was from that senior leader who taught us “if you disagree with your manager, have a very valid reason to justify and show alternatives why you think other options are better”.

Yeeee... Having a skip 03 is always dangerous. Your manager has to be secure in their position and they have to reserve the urge to filter out what you are going to say. You also have to keep in mind that while the meeting might be fine, you have to really bring the value. If the meeting is $150 of total time (some of those executive positions pay well hourly), then you have to make it worth $450 of either sales to be made or savings to be earned. That's a tough ask, especially when you are in a new place.

This advice is gold. It’s the fastest way to fast track your career. People you see at work that are getting promoted quickly are doing this 100%. (Speaking as a manager of managers) Whenever I see this I am always impressed.

Dude the day I joined every coworker left the company or got fired in under a month, and now it's me and the CEO lol.

It's kinda hard to do all the work myself but it is really beneficial for me to teach myself how to handle multiple tasks in the near future as my own CEO

yeah this is a good way to get yourself either fired or isolated. ive worked for companies who tell you to do this. ive tried to do this. its always a bad idea.
