Great review! Short and to the point - I approve.

I was just thinking about whether my 'Black Friday 2018' WD 1TB Black drives were faster than my 1tb 970 Samsung Evo, so I could prioritize my builds / trickle down parts to my secondary and mobile workstations. I'm glad to see both the Samsung and WD running neck and neck. And the fact that the new WD SN Blacks can holding their own is a pleasant surprise at their price point.

It has higher IOPS with gaming mode - does the drive seriously switch power states so often that it makes a difference during benchmarks? And why is sequential slower with game mode on?

Video seemed jittery to me when panning. Perhaps double-check the camera's settings, could be the framerate the camera's capturing isn't aligned with the rest of the video.

Where can one confirm this uses TLC? It's not anywhere on WD's spec papers or website.

should note this 3rd Gen WD black is it self is the same as the 2nd Gen WD black NVME SSD, just different firmware (2nd Gen WD black won't be getting the firmware tweaks)

Does the gaming mode do anything if you have your Windows Advanced Power Option: "Turn Hard Disk Off After..." set to "never" (can't actually set never but can set obscene number)?

why is gen 2 only listed for one of these.. what are the GEN of the rest.. what is the Gen of the SN570. my board says it supports gen 4.0 but none of the m.2 I have looked at say what gen they are anywhere.. wtf

Why would gaming mode make a difference in random reads during a benchmark, this makes zero sense and something is wrong with the numbers.
