The Legend of Heroes: Trails into Reverie Review

The Legend of Heroes: Trails into Reverie reviewed by George Yang on PlayStation 5. Also available on PlayStation 4 and PC.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails into Reverie is one of the best games in this almost 20-year-old franchise and a great RPG. While its overall story is a bit of a retread, its amazing pacing, and in-depth battle system, make it a satisfying conclusion to the Crossbell and Cold Steel arcs. It also makes good use of its admittedly way-too-large cast of playable characters. That said, newcomers who are unfamiliar with the series will certainly be lost without having played the previous games. However, it's well worth doing so in order to experience one of the best RPG universes ever crafted.

As someone who played through the Trails games and enjoyed every second of it, IGN finally reviewing the series make me happy.

Read Three & Nine in Trails of Cold Steel IV to know about Nadia's and Swin's past. The reviewer clearly didn't.

Even though IGN reviewed Ys 9, which was still a shock too, it’s still surprising to see them review a Trails game

This game is a deep culmination of the efforts from 9 prior games, The End Game of the series, if you will. For those who played through the Trails series in chronological order up until this point, you my friends are in for an absolute legendary treat on a scale most gamers will never experience.

There is no other RPG series that offers what the Trails series consistently delivers on. Truly, it is a one of a kind series in a world where stand-alone entries and disposable worlds, characters, and stories are the standard.

Nihon Falcolm's - magnum middle finger opus - to the Final Fantasies of the world, enter; The Legend of Heroes: Trails into Reverie.

FUN FACT: The latest upcoming entry in the series is the sequel to this game's sequel, and the ported localized versions of two PSP games, that are vital to this game's story, were the latest releases for the past 2 years. That's how BEHIND the localization is.

Nice to see that IGN is covering this game. Never a complaint to see a series like this getting reviewed by a big-time gaming site.

This is for those that are disappointed that FFXVI isn’t an rpg game. Trails is an excellent series if you like to keep it at least somewhat old school.

I'm glad Turn based games are still cool, if done right these, and the Persona series definately do it right.

Defo agree on playing all previous titles (at least all cold steel titles) to make things less confusing. If you know the characters and used them before on previous titles, it makes your selection a lot of easier and straight forward.

Played this in Japanese two years ago, my favorite JRPG of all time.

Trails really does cover all the characters’ growth and maturity through the in-game time flow from original concept to real life modern at an expeditious pace, when one looks at the timeline. The orbmwnts are the prime example from pocket watches to cellphones by Kuro.
