Matthew doesn’t say that the wise men, or Magi, were present at Jesus’ birth. He says only that “in the days of Herod the king” the Magi came to Jerusalem, not Bethlehem.

Matthew does tell us that after the Magi failed to return to Herod after visiting Jesus, Herod ordered all of Bethlehem’s male children under the age of two to be killed.

The "Magi" were Persian astrologers. The supposition that there are three is derived from the mention of the three gifts, the gold, frankincense, and myrrh. All we know is that it is in the plural, because "men" is in the plural, there were two or more.
Beyond that, it goes into educated speculation.
Back in the Book of Daniel, we find that Daniel was fully educated in the Persian astronomy (which was quite good considering the lack of telescopes and other modern equipment), and the astrology that was built upon it The foretelling and accurate timing of the coming of a Messiah was done at this time by Daniel, and it is likely that his fellow Magi took careful note, it was passed down through their priesthood, and the visit to the Christ child, who is the Savior of the world.
In order to travel safely and in accordance with their exalted status and dignity, they were likely a large and well supplied travel party, complete with servants and well armed guards to scare away and if necessary, fight off brigands and thieves. These are my opinions, but they are well grounded in a reasoned awareness of what would be necessary to carry on a difficult task such as this in the conditions and circumstances of this time and in the Middle Eastern world..

May, like the Magi, bring daily gifts to the Lord to praise & honor all our life, in Jesus' name. Salve Regina... Gloria Patri... Alleluia. Amen. 🙏 ❤️ 🌹 🕊 🇵🇭

What’s important to remember? Is that the wisemen or Magi were Zoroastrian priests from Persia (modern day Iran). The Bible does not say they were Kings nor does it give the number three. This is later tradition. There were three gifts given to Christ and so it is believed there were three wisemen, but it could’ve been a whole caravan of them.

There is no bible as to how many wisemen there were. They're may have been several of them. They came in a large caravan. The bible says when they got to Jerusalem, all Jerusalem was troubled.
