This sounds like an advertisement, not a review.

I think this used to be true.

I had a pair of Moabs which lasted me years and were just amazing. Eventually, through being used and used, they got worn to the point that I just had to get a new pair. When I realised I could get the exact same shoe again, it really was a n-brainer and I got them.

Oh boy. The difference is remarkable. Sure, they look the same and they are not far off being as comfortable but looks and comfort really are the only things my old and new pair have in common.

The Vibram soles on the new pair are horrendous. On any paved surface that isn't completely dry there is next to no grip at all and they are downright dangerous. Also smooth rock on paths has had me sliding around. Even slightly steeper paths of dry hard clay with that bit of 'dust' on the surface has given me real trouble in these shoes - where it's no problem in anything else.

I have a pair of 'classic dress shoes' with slick wooden soles that are less slippery on wet pavement.

As for build quality... well, the old ones lasted years in which I wore them as every-day shoes as well as for hiking. I reckon I had them for about 5 years and finally the sides at my little toes wore too thin. I still wear them when mowing the lawn. On the new ones, the right sole came loose at the right side of the heel after three months.

All those things are bad. But there's one thing that's even worse: On the inside of the heel of my old pair of Moabs, there was a leather cover which meant I was very unlikely to experience any rubbing on my heel. On the new pair, no such leather cover, and instead there is a seam that runs horisontally across the heel. A seem which frankly feels like steel wire. The first day I wore them, holes were cut in a new pair of socks and I got blisters - and we're just talking about a walk around the block here. I thought they'd wear in so kept wearing them like that for another week, at which point I realised that the seam was just getting sharper and sharper.

So I glued in leather patches on the inside of the heel. That works just like it did on the old pair, which came with those patches. Before I put them in though, I inspected the seams and it was clear that while sharp as holy hell, they were clearly not going to last long if not covered.

Sadly, I've lost my receipt for the shoes.

So In the first three months of owning these shoes, I made them quite comfortable by adding leather patches on the inside of the heel and I re-glued the sole. I also learnt that I can only wear them on relatively flat, rough surfaces and if it's raining outside, it's best if I don't wear them at all. A weird thing for shoes that are waterproof.

They are not the worst shoes I've had - but they are the most disappointing shoes I've ever had, as the old ones were fantastic.

The moab 2 in my opinion is a downgrade from their last shoes. Mine didn't last a year.

Does water goes in at all after years of wearing them? On amazon the reviews say that on week one of wering these new shoes on wet gras they get your feet wet.

Nice! Do these run true to size? I’m a 12 wide and they have that size. Will 12 be accurate?

I guess Tiffany isn't going to get an answer to her sizing question? Maybe he didn't wear them for all that time and doesn't know how to size them?

I really do not like the webbing eyelets. I’ve had two pair of the Moab 2’s and the webbing eyelets are not as durable as the shoe. To use a material which is not as durable as the rest of the shoe was unwise.

Hi Craig.I'm new to hiking rocky, steep trails! Was told to get a larger boot for going down steep heels.Did you buy your shoe a half or full size larger than your typical shoe size?
