Rick Astley is a Bauhaus fan. I love this. This makes my whole life better.

The band "Japan" must be one of the most under rated & influential bands in history. In the last 10 years i've heard everyone from Rick Astley, Gary Numan, & members of Duran Duran, Tears For Fears, The Smiths, Depeche Mode, Skinny Puppy, Ministry say they were fans.

What a genuine, well-spoken, passionate, sweetheart of a guy. Some great picks, too. Who knew?!?!

From now on, What's in My Bag? shall be known as What's in Rick's Bag and every episode will just be Rick Astley talking about things he enjoys. This is what the people want.

Who'd have thought. Selling England by the pound is my absolute favourite Genesis album. Pure escapism.

I feel so blessed by seeing Rick Astley with Bauhaus's The Bela Session LP in his hands

Top bloke, down-to-earth and knows how to express what's meaningful to him about music without needing to be pretentious. I second the sentiment by someone else in the comments that I'd gladly watch a series of him just talking about music.

One of the best episodes I’ve ever watched. Loved how detailed, and passionate he was about every album he picked.

What a down to earth and genuine guy Rick is. A lesson to us all.

Holy shit. Rick Astley just became the absolute goat for being a Japan fan. David Sylvian's Solo work is also so so amazing

Out of all the incredible what’s in my bag episodes, I never thought Rick Astley would be my favourite, what a genuine and passionate music lover!

I'm glad to see online content out there that humanizes a musician rather than simply treating them as a meme or a product of their time.

I thought of him as an 80s has-been but in 2019 I was at a festival in Denmark and with nothing else really happening I went to see his set. Much of the crowd was too young to remember him from the 80s but they knew his music and loved him. Rick returned the crowd's love and I had an absolute blast. He encored with Highway to Hell so I wasn't surprised to see it in this video.

Got the privilege of seeing Rick do a gig playing songs by The Smiths and it was fucking sick, really pulled off the vocals

What a genuinely nice guy. Great sense of humor too. His career was largely revived by a meme and he embraced it and had fun with it and won a new generation of fans who may not even have been into his genre of music but recognized that the guy has talent and an amazing attitude

This was unexpectedly amazing. He's so articulate about what music means to him.

I can't believe I am saying this, but this is my favorite "What's In My Bag?" episode! Well spoken, kind, knowledgeable and super fricking chill (and great picks, my god, Tori Amos, Bauhaus, Japan???)

Selling England by the Pound happens to be my absolute favorite Genesis album. Particularly: peak Phil Collins (listen to Dancing with the Moonlit Knight among other things), peak Steve Hackett (Firth of fifth). It's nice hearing someone say even if it's not their everyday kind of music, the sortof theatrical lore they created with Gabriel helped keeping curiosity and open-mindedness alive.
