Driving through the Mojave desert can actually be quite beautiful, especially at sundown. The sunsets in the southwest are often very clear and gorgeous

7:00 Don't know what Millie was about to say about California, but they get snow. They have lots of mountains. Very diverse state. They've even hosted a Winter Olympics.

That's where the weather control machine is called the harp machine

I'm from Oregon, and while the Oregon Outback is stunning and beautiful, I gotta vote for Montana being the most beautiful in this list. There is likely much more scenery to be viewed in Alaska, but it's very spread out. You can't turn a corner in Montana without being gobsmacked by incredible vistas.

My opinion of what Area 51 is now, is just the place where the military develops new weapons. As far as what has happened there in the past... well, I think we're all better off for not knowing that information.

In Arizona alone, every county looks like a completely different place

The crazy thing is driving through these areas and noticing the geography change before your eyes

You have the wrong idea about snow in California, too. People in L.A. live close enough to mountains to go skiing over the weekend in the winter. The high desert in southern California gets snow in the mountains and sometimes on the plains; enough that people have to carry chains for their tires if they want to be sure to get through.

I used to be a delivery driver for a meat company and one of my weekly routes was from Reno to Elko. That's around 650 miles round trip in 1 day. As far as the whole UFO controversy I'll just say this. I once saw a slowly moving MASSIVE black object block out all the nights stars that made no sound. Thank you X10 Millie for pronouncing Nevada right. She's a keeper James. ;)

"The Nevada Test Site" also known as area 51 is a huge military facility in central Nevada. Bombing ranges, Experimental aircraft and weapon systems are developed there. To the south near Las Vegas many underground nuclear tests were conducted in the 1960s and 70s strong enough to shake the hotels on the Las Vegas strip. You can take a tour of the remains of the city that was built specifically to be destroyed by a nuclear bomb (no lie). To the north of the test site is the "Top GUN" school made famous by the movie of the same name. A friend of mine works in the test site and is transported by helicopter every day to work. When I ask him what he does there, he just smiles. The area is so secure that even private planes and commercial jets must fly around the site or be shot down. Very cool!

Than you for wearing that Harvard shirt! I live in Massachusetts and that school isn't that far away from my house.

You need to look at the orphan trains. One of my friends family went out west on an orphan train. They took orphans from populated areas and sent them to families out west.

I had the pleasure of taking a train from Chicago to Portland OR. The trip included Montana, North Dakota, Northern Idaho, and a long run along the northern coast of the Columbia River, which was about a mile across and the sunrise made the whole thing glow in a certain way. Watching the sun come up to that was the highlight of a gorgeous trip.

10:45. That banter is brutal--hahaha. He put a ring on it and you accepted. James must be rocking your boat in good ways, Millie. It's not the size of the boat, but the motion of the ocean....

Coming from Wyoming, I've been through a lot of these places, & they are all unique & beautiful. But because they are isolated, always pack provisions, extra water, good paper maps, & blankets. Even locals can be taken by surprise by the weather there.

Craters of the Moon NP in Idaho is pretty cool. Lots of volcanic rock.
