In this quick update you will see some really big news for After Effects!
After all those years we are now able to import 3D objects, such as OBJ and GLB with textures!!
Before that was only able with plugins such as Video Copilot Element3D, but now this works native in after effects.
You can add a camera, lights and as many different 3d objects that will interact in 3D space.
With the new Mercury Render Engine, you can almost work in real time and if you choose a draft render setting, you are super fast!

In this video I show you how to integrate greenscreen footage into a cg environment, how to animate a camera and how to set up a interior room scene together with 3D extrude and bevel text

This is great. I moved from Hitfilm Pro to After Effects a couple of years ago and was astounded that AE didn’t support 3D objects without plugins. It’s great that they’re finally addressing this missing piece of the puzzle.

After Effects 24.1 (official release) now supports 3D models natively. It was released today.

"GLB is a binary container format of glTF. It bundles all the textures and mesh data into a single file."
For this reason, with this format you cannot modify any aspect of the model, be it its textures or type of shaders. As well as the environment image.
Although it is something practical for many cases, the ideal would have been that it could also support files like Alembic, which are the industry standard. With the possibility of using shaders. a 3DElement but modern.
If the client asks for something to have less or more reflection it won't work, unless you go to the source file and fix it in another program.

I wanted to congratulate you in advance for 100k subscribers. You are perfect, I wish you continued success, my dear brother. Your effort deserves MILLIONS of subscribers. I'm sure he will succeed soon. You teach a lot even though there are thousands of kilometers between you and us. We love you, our dear teacher. Kind Regards..

Are you reading our minds? it's perfect that you can pinpoint the topics we need the most. Did I mention you're the best👍👍😍

Hmmm, if you can actually add lights in after effects that provide shadows for the 3d objects, then it has almost become like a full 3D program. It means you can make 3d assets in another program and then make your final scene in after effects (because I assume its way faster to render, since rendering inside actual specific 3D programs is super slow).

If anybody is trying this and is a complete beginner to 3D in AE like me, and as a result, getting greyish featureless models you still need to apply textures and lights and the way I did it was to import my model into a weird little Adobe program called Adobe Substance (yes, really) Stager. Then export the entire scene as a GLFT (or something like that) model. So, any light or reflection or texture you create is now exported and bundled into the model. Stager does 3d text as well, so having this recognised within AE is also really handy. Stager is subscription I believe. The ideal option would have been to import live video into stager (which isn't possible) as Stager is quite a nice little interface for 3D. I don't know what the long term strategy with 3d is for AE, but diving into it, there is also a cinema 4d lite option which is worth investigating.

That is really awesome feature I have seen in after effects

Even for 3d object import equipment, after effect has been beaten by a video editing application on Android which is already capable of running obj, fbx files with animation.

About time! It's ridiculous that AE relied on a 3rd party plugin to use 3D models in its 3D engine for soooo long.

I literally just taught myself how to do this in c4d lite I’m frustrated that I feel like I wasted a lot of time learning the long way but Im glad for all the time I’ll save in the future

This is exciting. I love Videicopilot Element 3D. I wonder how this will be different
