I get the feeling that part of the reason The Doctor was so brutal to the family was out of anger on John Smith's behalf.

I have a theory that he enjoyed his time as John Smith, the innocence of the character he became, and therefore decided to don the bow tie John wore in his next incarnation.

In the moment before the Doctor covered Harry Lloyd's face, you can almost see tears welling in his eyes. Either he's sorry he got caught and punished, or he was actually sorry for what he had done. I'm actually personally going for the latter since he spoke of his sister and hoped the Doctor would one day forgive her.

This is one of my all time favourite David Tennant Doctor Who moments.
It just shows the true power of The Doctor and reminds you that whilst he can be your very best friend, he could also become your greatest threat if you push him too far or do something unforgivable to either him or people he cares very deeply for.

I love how at 0:09- 0:10 and at 0:42 The Doctor still pretending to be John Smith was pressing all of those buttons because The Family was not only underestimating him they also did not realize that they were falling for his trap. I also loved how at 1:29 the doctor was still pretending to be John Smith until 1:34-2:10. Once he says You really should not have let me press all of those buttons they realized too late that they should have taken him seriously now they will suffer the consequences for their actions.

This scene is a brilliant display of David's chameleon acting. He begins as the terrified, helpless "idiot"; in a moment, he becomes the unshakeable mad genius; and then we see him as that ancient, sad, terrible force of retribution.

This story was written for the 6th doctor, and in these quiet ragefull moments, it absolutely shows.

When I watch this, I always ask: When the Doctor visits the little sister, once a year, every year, from who's perspective are the years taking place. If it's from the little sister's perspective, than the Doctor could theoretically do a hundred year's worth of visits in under an hour. But if it's from the Doctor's perspective, than the little sister might be asking herself "why does he keep coming back every few minutes to check on me?"

Anyone else realize the implications of the unbreakable chains with how the others were punished it implies that even in death his mind/consciousness/soul will still be trapped in his dead decaying body that not even death is an escape.

Best Doctor EVER; he should have had several more years to play him. Best physical acting & expression, & best facial acting (expressions) I have *ever* seen, and best voice control. I would like to have seen him play the doctor for at least as long as Tom Baker

It’s funny how 10 changed from his John Smith clothes to his usual outfit. Like “I’m gonna torture your family for all eternity, but check out this drip”

I love how they don't show how he does it. It preserves the mystery of it. Also, he did the boy last.The doctor made him watch.
It also makes me wonder where Martha was. I don't think she was with him while he did that.
