I like the way Father Mike Schmitz put it we are saved by grace through faith working it’self out through love. How do we show that love? How do we bear fruit? By works. Works don’t save but they show the fruit of our faith.

Yes that’s what Jesus said

Thanks Keith

Romans 5:1 [1] Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

I think it was Fr Schmitz who made a great analogy. The gift of salvation is like a really cool guitar. It's great and it's yours so long as you wish to keep it.
But are you ever going to be a very good guitarist if you don't work at it? No.
Faith is the foundation, and always will be. But the brick and mortar to erect the walls of the temple of faith in your heart takes work.

We are Saved nit by Good Works but by Grace of our Almighty GOD through Faith (Ephesians 2:8-9, Titus 3:4-5). Real Faith comes from Christ (2Peter 1:1) through His Words (Romans 10:17). Good Works, following and obedient to Christ is a fruit of a true Faith in Christ and a changed heart by the HOLY SPIRIT.

Ephesians 2:8 [8] “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, ”

Paul literally teaches on this subject in Romans.

Keith,
Serious question and not asking to argue or debate but just curious about your opinion as a Catholic. Do you believe you and you wife were saved prior to your conversion and her reversion to the Catholic church? How about your adult children who remain Protestant at this time? If they never convert, is the their eternity at risk?

You forgot where He said to keep the commandments as well.

This is grossly incorrect, because it’s taking the passage out of context. Jesus was looking inside the young man’s heart, and realizing what was in his way as was evident when the young man walked away, unwilling to do with Jesus said. Salvation has nothing to do with giving to the poor. Salvation is not faith and action. Salvation is faith that causes action.

To see this, you have to have the full counsel of God in the full revelation of scripture. This is evident in the Torah with the stories of David and Solomon. One must lean in faith on God, in order to exact action. Don’t look so close at the scripture without stepping back 50 feet and looking at the entirety of the Torah.

Salvation is never predicated on action.

Adding works to Jesus's sacrifice is telling God that Jesus's death on the cross is not enough for your salvation.

Like the way you get smug & say "just say a little prayer or believe some things about Jesus". But yeah, that is the katholic way. You see, it is 100% about faith, what you need to do is go find out what real faith is. Your spin on the the man coming to Jesus & asking what he needed to do to be saved. Could it be he was a Jew and at that time Christ had not yet become our propitiation yet & at that time if one-way true to want to be saved one needed to follow Jesus? I realize y'all don't take the gift seriously as of the gift of God nor respect it but must add/insert man's traditions: Roman3: 21 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;

22Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:

23For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

24Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

25Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

26To declare,  I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

27¶Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith.

I mean, if y'all ain't taught, told or desire to read & study the Word of GOD then you can't see it. Now, when you do, you'll have to rip out pages to meet the katholic narratives of the vatican
