weBoost RV-4G Mobile Booster vs Drive 4G-X

Watch my weBoost Drive 4G-X Booster video:

Signal Boost Level Test Results:
In my testing, I was able to average a 40-45 dBm boost with the RV-4G. Under prime conditions it may be better. The RV-4G was consistently around 4-5 dBm more boost over the Drive 4G-X when tested under the same conditions.

RV-4G or Drive 4G-X? Which to buy? Consider these things:

• RV-4G
○ Stationary use only
○ Some Setup and antenna placement
○ Large RVs only (need 20 ft distance between antennas)
○ Slightly higher boost (60 dBm Max - has stronger directional antenna)
○ Less expensive ($399)
○ 9 ft maximum internal coverage radius
• Drive 4G-X
○ In-Motion and Stationary use
○ Little to no setup after initial setup
○ Large and Small RV, truck or passenger car
○ 50 dBm Max Boost (magnetic omnidirectional antenna)
○ More Expensive (@ $450)
○ 5 ft maximum internal coverage radius

Which booster do I think is better? Read more here:

Thank you Brian as I love to view your videos as just wish they were more often. Nice to learn from you and be entertained at the same time. My wife and I have been to two locations you have recommended in the past year. Along the Columbia River and the state park near Port Townsend.

Nice comparison as I see the benefits of each unit you provided and see how the RV-4G is better for full timers that stay in one location for more than a few days. Similar to your travels you share my wife and I are on the road part time of the year so the 4G-X is more practical. But would love to have both.

Glad to see your review without trying to charge me like Technomadia does or asking me to contribute to their wine consumption. As I guess we out in Washington State are more down to earth. Thanks Mike

Great review and we've been considering a booster. Right now we're looking to pick up a wifi booster since we're boondocking a lot in cities but once we head back to the Southwest, that 4G booster would come in handy.

Love the videos Brian. I have the weBoost Drive 4G installed in my rig and it works great. I can use it while driving. I have the larger fixed antenna on the roof of my RV, so when we need to, I take take the whole unit with us in the Jeep and use it with the little car mount antenna. Cheers, Bill T.

Great review Brian. We concur 100%. Last year when the RV-4G came out, WeBoost wanted to send us one for review as well. We decided that we didn't want a unit that 1) Could only be used while parked, and 2) Needs to be set up each time we arrive in a new location. We haven't yet followed up with WeBoost, and we're waiting for the latest results from the MIMO testing that Chris & Cherie are doing at rvmobileinternet.com. A lot of advances are (hopefully) on the horizon, so we're just biding our time. Thanks for re-enforcing our decision to wait. And hopefully your feedback to them will lead to improvements.

Great video - thanks for posting as I have been researching these units for our RV. Being a Ham radio guy, I have quite a bit of experience with various antennas. Weboost makes several different antennas that have varying gain that share the same connector for use with their 4G boosters. It seems that you could build the perfect solution with the RV kit - which includes both power adapters, the higher power / better range internal antenna and an omnidirectional high gain external antenna for less money than the 4GX....

Agree with your assessment. A permanent mounted antennae would be better. I can see that suction cup mounting failing in inclement weather conditions, plus it's another added task to remember when packing up and getting ready to leave.

Love your videos! Thanks Brian! I'm like you, one and done. When you take out your rig you don't want to have to spend several hours setting and breaking down and this would add just one more thing. Also, you are probably going to get some comments about mounting it to the Antenna but the device looks way too heavy and bulky. They may want to consider pairing this product with their dome or building mount.

If you can provide feedback to the vendor it might be worth considering custom solution where customers can order a specific kit and their choice of antenna. Unfortunately one size does not often fit everyone. I would consider paying extra for a larger gain antenna if I know I am going to be further away from civilization. There really is a whole science that goes into these configurations.I love the effort this company is putting into this solution.

If you have a friend with another carrier it might be worth seeing how much improvement you get from Verizon vs. AT&T. Keep up the great videos!

Very helpful video. What app do you use for a wifi analyzer for those parks that have wifi?

Was just researching these two. Thanks for the video, it answered all my questions.

Brian, really enjoy your channel. I am in the market for a booster for my motorhome but will not purchasing the RV-4G due to the non-permanent exterior antenna. If I can't benefit from the booster while i'm driving then I wouldn't be a customer for that model. I am leaning towards the 4G-x with the trucker style antenna from weBoost.

You mention that an advantage to the Drive 4G-X is that it can be used while on the road. One of your videos shows it mounted in a shelf with the antenna wired down to a table. What do you do if your going to use it in the truck?

Needs a mount that will clamp to the TV antenna. That way you could raise an aim it from the inside.

I wouldn't have enough confidence in those flimsy suction cup mounts for something I paid good money for, especially when it's mounted 8-10' off the ground. A pole mount would solve that and you could actually aim it better, plus you'd probably get that 20' separation ya need. Anyway.. Thanks for the Vid!

Cheers!
