NEVER MISS LAYUPS AGAIN: Layup Aiming Tricks and Tips

In today's video, I'm going to show you my top tricks and tips for NEVER missing layups again! Being able to finish around the rim is HUGELY important in today's basketball landscape with players being more athletic then ever, it's important for basketball players to have a bunch of layup options once they drive down the lane! Breaking down the skill of aiming and finishing layups is actually really simple if players take the time to learn the basics to never miss layups again!
The first skill we look at when finishing layups is "Finishing High" simply meaning that we are making sure to aim at the upper corners of the box on the backboard to give ourselves the optimal angle for making more layups. Finishing High on your layups not only gives you a better chance at finishing the layup, but it also makes it much harder for defenders to block your shot. The skill of finishing high is something that I recommend for players of all skill levels from kids at the youngest level of basketball to guys I train in the NBA! So be sure to make sure that you implement 'Finishing High" to your Layup Package!
The second skill we look at when finishing layups is what I like to call the "Upper Deck Finish" this skill is something that guards in the NBA like Kyrie Irving, and Stephen Curry uses to finish over taller more athletic post defenders. However, if you can master the "Upper Deck Finish" you can literally score over while never missing layups again! So if you are a player that has a hard time finishing due to players being taller and more athletic then you, I HIGHLY suggest adding the "Upper Deck Finish" to your layup package. Don't forget to aim above the box on the backboard for this specific finishing option.
The third skill I like to teach when it comes to never missing layups is the "English Finish" this finish is SUPER important as you further your basketball career into high school and college! I often times even prescribe younger players to get their reps in practicing the "English Finish" simply because it really is so important to be able to finish layups from a variety of different angles all around the basket. Having the ability to finish at a high level can be the difference for a lot of players when it comes to seeing playing time or furthering their basketball careers over time! Make sure you add the "English Finish" to your layup package!
Alright Shotmechanics family I hope this helps you guys NEVER miss layups again! As always make sure you implement these Layup Aiming Trick and Tips into your daily basketball workouts for optimal results!

How to increase your layup percentage:
1. lay the ball up high (top corner of the white box)
2. get even higher than that (softer touch)
3. get some spin on the ball
- chest toward the wall - rotate thumb
- shoulder rotated away - rotate pinky

Thanks Coach Collin!

This really helped a lot, especially on the part on how to spin the ball the right way, and where I should aim at on layups, ty so much, Im a defender and I usually come up with a lot of steals and I would get nervous on the fast break sometimes and just miss the layup

Hey! Can u please make a video of how to finish soft off the glass?! One of the biggest issues with my layups is that I throw the ball up off the backboard too strong(unintentionally), thanks!
