This short hit way to close to home, I loved the story between a stressed out son and his older father just trying to make him happy even with the little memories he has left, this was so heartwarming and inspirational I'm glad this short was given in my recommendations💕

the fact that he never properly answered the question “why can’t we go to the carnival” in the beginning speaks volumes about the accuracy of this portrayal. stressed-out unfocused parents don’t want to answer the question, they just want to say the thing that’ll make their kids shut up the quickest, hence the rain answer. the twist of the child being how he sees his father was phenomenal and made the dialogue even more powerful

It took me a couple watches to realize, from the main characters perspective it looked like he’s trying to get work done while putting up with a child’s antics.

When in reality his dad was actually just worried about his well-being. Seeing how hard he worked and how unhappy he was, he just wanted to do something nice for his son, but he was dismissed as an annoyance every time.

Even in his old age, he still wanted to take care of his son, even though his efforts went unnoticed.

this made me cry, it so increadibly well done. I thought maybe the kid was his concience but no a father with dementia, gut punch. Truly gorgeous, this deserves so much more attention!

I like the details that stand out on the second watch -- like the old man's insistence that his son not smoke foreshadows him just wanting to care for his son, and his insistence on not needing his pills making more sense from an adult dementia patient than from a child.

Ok but the "Do you know my son? He is a nice kid" just killed me 😭😭😭
What an amazing animated short!

Had to watch it twice. This was one of the best and most heart felt shorts I've ever watched. The older guy obviously has dementia/Alzheimer's which is why he's portrayed as a little boy. Helping and totally dependent upon the working father. The working father probably unintentionally has allowed the stresses of his job to cause him to lash

Why isn't this popular. This is a masterpiece

The dialogue makes a lot more sense on a second watch. I thought saying "'I'm sick of you" to a child was too intense, but looking back it comes together since this character has already spent so much time taking care of the father. Nicely done

Oh my. This was wonderful. 🙏🏾 ❤ Dad knew exactly what his son needed.

I thought it was kinda weird that the son refers to his dad by his first name in the beginning of the short. So I did a little research and found that a child calling their parent by name can be a sign of an erosion of family roles, such as son and father. Considering how the son views his father and serves the role of a father, it would make sense that he calls his father by name, like a parent would to their child.

I watch CalArts short films regularly for over 5 years. I'm telling you, this is the best work in providing the emotions so far.
I've never cried on the CalArts animation even if it was a sad one. But I now rewatched this. I cried again.
This is so amazing Luke! And it hits so hard right into me. I'll do my best in letting as much people as I know to watch this art.

this genuinely made me cry. never once has an animation made me bawl my eyes out. it made me miss my baby and my mom. i love how it captures the panic it feels to lose something. how it captures the innocents still inside an old man just trying to help his son. how it portrays his illness (to which im assuming is memory related)
