Barbarian has the best way of handling this, if a barb gets caught stealing the idol you have an intimidation that literally just says "ITS MINE, PISS OFF"

You could shoot an arrow or 2 of darkness to conceal yourself and the idol, grab your rogue (Astarion) and crouch steal it, go into turn based (or not) and sprint towards the elevator (no need to be crouched still). Once up you just sit there and wait, you party members will be questioned but since they're innocent they can just say so without having to pass a check, shortly after that everyone forgets lol

If you find the evidence to confront Kagha and pass the relevant checks to get her to knock off her BS then the ritual ends and you can snatch the idol WAYYY easier.

if you dont want to get caught send one member of your party to the cave with mol, use a spell that disrupt vision in an area like darkness and transfer the idol to your member in the cave then walk your thief away while concealed. once some time passes the druids will leave the scene of the crime and you can try talking to them to see if they've stop looking for the thief

With friends, we randomly found that you can steal it by summoning scratch, and throw the idol. Then scratch will just get the idol because you threw it, and bring it back to you. Nobody is alarmed or anything !

I used an invisibility potion, sneaked, then sent astarion to camp immediately after. After a short time, they'll question you and your companions, but you're innocent, so no check needed. Can't question your rogue because they're at camp. I do this every time I do a big pickpocket since my rogue isn't built for talking.
