This is a way to get lots of seat time with very little material and very little prep time.
Do yourself and favor and don't shortcut this exercise.

It's nice to see an expert get back to the basics in order to teach others. Thank you.

your videos have helped me so much with my welding. I currently go to tulsa welding school in jacksonville and I watch your videos for each project im working on and its helped me tremendously. I like how thorough you are in your videos and you explain things in a way that a beginner welder like myself can understand. thank you for all the work you do. I look forward to watching your future videos!

Lots of great info. I'm a hobby welder but still want to have the best possible welds so I really appreciate the exercises that can make me a better welder. It's amazing how much that heavy plate warped. Metals truly are fascinating.

It may be eons before I can lay beads like these... amazing control and technique you have been showing us.  My wife shook me into reality when she said, "You won't improve your welding skills by just watching the videos the whole afternoon."
I remember you mentioned - seat time.
Practice and practice.
slowly I am getting there...
thank you

Thanks for drawing the trailing edge of the puddle, first time I have ever seen it shown clearly.

I learned that 7018 trick of flipping the rod at the end of the weld from watching this. I have used it ever since, also breaking the flux of the end for a better restart. Learned a lot from watching this videos.

Man thank you for this, I'm in a welding I high school class and I always have trouble restarting my beads in my exercises using 7018, I really appreciate you passing along your expertise as such.

Don’t know how many times I’ve watched this video now, but I keep learning a little more each time after welding at school. Super valuable. I’m working on controlling the rod when I first start as it is very flimsy, the weld starts looking great about 1/4-1/2 way into the rod where it starts to become more sturdy

you are brilliant at what you do. There is so much one learns from just your videos. Thank you for your time and effort in all your videos.

Love these "back to basics" videos. Welders have a tendency to think they have learned everything there is to know. Tips and tricks is an appropriate title. Thanks :)

Jody thanks for all the awesome videos buddy. I've learned so much from you, as an HVAC Technicians sometimes I have to weld here and there. However I started out as an steam fitter before getting in to service and repairs. Thank you again.

Man how you brace off of your pinky is awesome, that’s my main problem is bracing and then I’m moving my wrist, wish me luck.

Even though your doing just a basic practice skill for 7018 you still have some nice welds and even a vet at welding should practice some basics that they may not do all the time it’s just smart and thanks for this video it’s informative, I didn’t know about the flick trick so I’m gunna try that because having to scratch my 7018 tip all the time gets old when your doing a 3f or 4f and you have to burn a lot of rods and have a lot of restarts
