SpaceX Did Something NASA Couldn't for Decades!
1st commercial spacewalk 0:39
Polaris Dawn versus Nasa’s Project Gemini 4:49
“Earth sure looks like a perfect world”,
This is exactly what Polaris Dawn commander, Jared Isaacman said as he emerged from a Dragon spacecraft and looked back at the planet.
It can be said that the first commercial spacewalk in the Polaris Dawn program conducted by SpaceX and Billionaire Jared Isaacman is one of the boldest attempts yet to push the boundaries of privately funded spaceflight.
More remarkably, this is something that even a large national agency like NASA had never imagined before.
So, what makes this historic mission so special?
Find out everything in today's Techmap episode.
SpaceX Did Something NASA Couldn't for Decades!
But before we begin, let's subscribe to the channel to stay up-to-date with the latest space news.
Despite efforts by some national agencies to stop SpaceX from its dream of Mars colonization, SpaceX is still soaring ahead strongly.
The spectacle that Polaris's commander, Jared Isaacman, and SpaceX engineer Sarah Gillis pulled open the hatch and floated outside has become one of the greatest epics in the history of spaceflight. Since that moment, history has marked an internet entrepreneur and a SpaceX engineer as the first private astronauts to walk in space. And since then, the boundaries of human achievement in space have been pushed to a new level.
SpaceX Did Something NASA Couldn't for Decades!
But, don't forget our other two heroes, they are Scott Poteet, a former Air Force pilot who works for Isaacman, and SpaceX engineer Anna Menon, who remained inside the capsule to support Isaacman and Gillis.
Because the capsule had no air inside, they too were technically spacewalking, making this the largest number of astronauts to ever spacewalk simultaneously.
“Congratulations SpaceX Dragon team, Rookisaacman, and the crew of Polaris Program!” SpaceX CEO Elon Musk couldn't hide his emotions.
Nasa administrator, Bill Nelson also doesn't forget to send his congratulations for this victory.
"Congratulations Polaris Program and SpaceX on the first commercial spacewalk in history!
Today’s success represents a giant leap forward for the commercial space industry and NASA's long-term goal to build a vibrant US space economy."
Of course, the greatness doesn't stop there.

Good Morning. This is what happens when you take the government out of any project. Go SpaceX. Now get the FAA out of the way and let Starship Fly. Have a Great Day my Friend.

I believe NASA doesn’t really like SpaceX! NASA needs SpaceX and reluctantly uses them! Their favorite is Boeing!

It does not matter if they got all the way out they are still in total vacuum.

This is more about cycling the hatch and air pressure and functionality of the suits than actually floating around at the end of a tether. This is also a test of civilian training.

While not as exciting, it is a functional space walk and are steps in the right direction.

AT THIS RATE SPACEX WILL BE ON MARS BEFORE NASA WILL EVEN MAKE IT BACK TO THE MOON

I love how it’s basically the space version of sticking your head out of the sun roof. Just that your going 25 thousand km/h

Congratulations to SpaceX team for this historic mission. It is a great accomplishment. I am not, however, pro-privatization in all aspects of American society. The government does indeed play a vital role in all Americans' lives. Taxpayer-funded government agencies have provided enormous benefits. The NASA missions from the 1960s paved the way for where we are today.

How much of the Space X Video has been Digitally Edited?
And it seems out of sequence?

Please be careful with your editing. When describing the Gemini use of Titan rockets, you inadvertently showed an Atlas rocket in use.

It's a privilege to witness the milestones of today, but I think I should have seen more from NASA at 62 years old, I think of the missions I won't be around to see. Sorry if I seem greedy for to see more, but it's just my truth

BULL SHIT SPACE WALK!! All, 4 need to be tossing a ball back and forth between them. A tipical watered down SAFE to the Nth power, x 10, safe, safe. How many atmospheres did this take for them to decompress back to 1 atmosphere? The surface of earth is one ( 1 ) atmosphere. for a start. Right!. Certaintly not being critical. I was born in 1957 and lived through the SPACE RACE. The cancelation of Apollo after Apollo 17, was terrible. and the end of NASA. Kinda.

The first poke your head out of the capsule I think!

But let’s not consider that NASA conducts 'free' space walks at the ISS.

Hmmm.... Will you look at that I see a sphere!
Flefers will still deny this like they always do.
It was exciting to watch live, and see the cumulation of years of work everyone put into it pay off for this moment. Been a big fan of space and space exploration since I was a kid and have never lost the fascination and wonder of it. 😀

How many years has NASA been trying to make a more flexible spacesuit???
How many years is Starliner and SLS overdue???
How much over budget is everything that NASA tries???
