Homemade Lemon Powder

preview_player
Показать описание
We dehydrated and freeze dried lemons and then made powder three ways. After we powdered it in the blender, we placed the powder back in the dehydrator to drive off the last of the moisture. The result was perfect lemon powder that has many uses and is shelf stable for months.

Note: Since lemonade is made from only the juice of lemons, this powder would not work well for that considering it contains both the pith and the peel. We will do another video on how to make powder for making lemonade.

Any products we mention or show on our videos have been purchased with our own money and are recommended or not based on our own experience.

I absolutely LOVE when you are playful. I laughed so hard when you tasted the lemon with peel on and you were playful. I like seeing your true personality coming through. Love that you're so knowledgeable and precise with your videos and if you don't know about it, you spend the time to understand it in depth. Oh, and tell your husband he does an excellent job, too.

Pam, I laughed so hard when I saw your taste test. You are the best! I don't know how your husband filmed it without cracking up :-) Thank you both for your dedication, research, and sharing what you learn with us. I love your honesty/transparency. God bless you!

I have wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of your video's. I have learned invaluable information from you. As a nurse, I realized this last year that the world around us is very unsettling and scary. You have helped me step up my game, on being prepared. I know what you and your husband are doing takes endless hours. You both are my heroes, can not even find words to thank you both! Please pray for the health care workers, we are exhausted. Many, many THANKS!

The one with more bitterness you can use to make bitterlemon, it's delicious!!!
I've never dried lemons.
When I use fresh lemon juice, I always cook the peels afterwards to make bitterlemon (when you ferment the drink for one day you get also the gas inside). The peels after cooking aren't bitter anymore so you can make candies and bath them in chocolate, a very delicious sweet.
Maybe the cooked peels can be dried and powdered too (when you can resist not to eat them) They are delicious and they still have a lot of flavor.

Hi there! I’m enjoying your vids! Thanks for comparing and testing! When I powder ingredients, if they need more time to dry, I sift them through a little strainer and I only dry the bits that don’t powder. Sometimes I just store them in a separate marked container. Like “celery powder” and “celery bits”. Great uses for both and no need to reddy them. They have stored over two years.

Hi Pam.Thank you for the video! I think that for the last batch (the one without the zests), if after zesting them you raw peel and divide them like we do with grapefruits, you'll end up with raw lemon quarters that you could freeze dry. No more bitterness outcome. I know, it's a little more work, but now they sell very good serrated paring knives and it makes that kind of job very easy. I don't know how that will impact the lemony flavor but who knows? Maybe you'll end up with a good raw lemonade base. All the best.

I love your videos! One suggestion for you: if you leave out one small piece when you're blending, you can place the piece next to the jar of powder for a visual reminder of what's in the jar. I hope that makes sense.

Love your lemon powder lesson. When I make a powder, I find that the friction from using blender seems to create moisture. I turn my oven on, warm it up to low. Shut off oven. Place powder on parchment paper on baking sheet. Leave in oven until completely cool. Works Great, sometimes it will crust over slightly, just gently tap to breakup. P owded no clumps or sticking. You two make a great team.
