I’m glad to finally hear a real discussion of what fascism actually is. It’s an economic model, not authoritarianism. Authoritarianism is simply what arises when you concentrate power in the hands of an elite few. This applies to communism as well.

We all need to understand this because the entire (western) world is almost surely heading towards a version of fascism due to the decline of the liberal world order (which itself is/will be happening largely due to low birth/replacement rates, on top of the corruption we see today).

Let's not forget that Mussolini also built a military that was too large and expensive for Italy to support. Sound familiar?

Thank you for having Clare Mattei on. Wonderful but too short interview. BTW, what's with Robbies sour face? Is this how he deals with information that runs counter to his world view?

🔥🔥🔥🎯 🎯🎯 If you read no other book this year read this one. If you weren't already aware it'll change your life, and if you were it'll change the way you discuss it. Truly powerful work. ♥️

Robby looks so unamused. Please have this woman back on just for fun.

Robbie can only conceptualize fascism as fitting his view of economic "bad actors". His education is showing.

Would be interesting to have Clara Mattei back on to focus more on neoliberal economics as it has developed in the U.S., and is used by the World Bank, IMF, etc. to squash recalcitrant trade unions, democratic movements, and nations focused on helping their own populations. Perhaps too much of the modest allotted time was spent discussing Mussolini and Italian fascism rather than contemporary issues. I'm sure her book delves into this in detail.
Neoliberalism is an economic program implemented by both political parties in the U.S., which is especially beneficial to large corporations and banks --and it has largely replaced Keynesian economics in the 'West'. (It has little to do with so-called 'liberal' vs. 'conservative' politicians as that's a peculiar American usage of the word 'liberal'. In Australia, e.g., the 'liberal' party is considered the more right-wing or conservative party.)
Thank you to The Hill for having the guest and the discussion.

Obsessed that you guys approached this and make this a conversation!! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 guys can we please talk about this more. It goes hand in hand as to why we as the "richest" countries but don't have free higher education or Healthcare? Exactly what Bri was talking about in her segment about the conservatives who went to college and have high paying jobs want it to Stay unaffordable to preserve the social them we can't ALL be given the opportunity to be on top.

The merger of corporations and state and we’re predictably mentioning trump due to all the accusations, why not highlight the way establishment and uniparty players have been moving these ACTUAL policies forward for ages? And seemingly attempting to either maintain the rich or drive the system to a breaking point.

Just look at how the Billionaires and oligarchs in the US swung their support from Rs in the 2000s to the Dems in 2010s and 2020s to understand how they put their money into the party where their best interest lies (and who will fulfill their needs). When one party wanted to stop unfettered immigration (that keeps wages low) and bring back industry (which means less profits for corporations) they immediately supported the other side.

When it comes to austerity, Mark Blythe said, "I'm all for tightening our belts if we are all wearing the same pants." Also, anytime you shrink the economy with austerity, you increase the debt to GDP ratio - that's just math.

These are some phenomenal topics and precisely how to build the ideal "shining city on the Hill" that the U.S. was intended...For Real

Once again Robbie shows he's mastery of historical knowledge.

I wonder if Robbie will ever wake up or will his nepotism leave him in ignorance until he is left to fend for himself in the hellscape to come.

one thing that has been learned during the plandemic and the deliberate inflation is that the government will protect the capitalist system no matter what- even if they are forced to give the general public some small cash to keep the entire system from sinking

The word fascist in the United States has literally no f-ing meaning.

Amazing I even saw this given the algorithmic suppression but I don't know what exact part triggered the suppression

I wonder what the correlation between the war economy with Italy’s adventurism in Africa and austerity impact’s the author’s theory. Nationalization and rationing wasn’t uncommon during war efforts back then unlike now.

When it takes 8 minutes to make the argument "it's not what you think", I think you need to rethink your position.

The simple answer here is likely the correct one. Statism leads to preference of the statists. There is no government control without authoritarianism. "Worker ownership" is a pipe dream that always, always descends into dictatorship, because it's a feature, not a bug.
