Here's Why There's a FUEL CRISIS in the UK...

Why is there a fuel crisis in the UK right now? Why can't we fill our cars with petrol or diesel? Why are petrol stations closing around the country? Is it a fuel shortage, an HGV driver shortage, or something else? Is it panic buying or is it just people being selfish?

In this video I give the background and provide my opinion on the matter!

I hope you enjoy!

Would love to hear your thoughts on my reasoning, and why you think this crisis has happened - do let me know in the comments. Thanks for watching!

My dads a lorry driver, he has said majority of tanker drivers who have to have special qualification to be a tanker driver are now being paid less than drivers working for Hermes, Sainsbury’s etc… even though their work is of much higher risk (basically carrying a bomb behind them) is something no one is talking about and a lot of them are changing the goods they carry and earn significantly more money . Also the media are massively to blame for this for just scaremongering to get views, 100% agree with all your points

I work in a petrol station. There was literally zero issue with supplies prior to the media suggesting there was, even our tanker drivers said as such. That fact is still true, we STILL have no supply issues for normal buying.

The media causing panic buying is the only reason fuel is running out, normal deliveries just won't keep up with masses coming out to buy it for no reason.

Again, we are still getting regular fuel deliveries - bigger than normal in fact going by what I got Saturday night - but it can't keep up with panic buying. This is 100% on the media, whoever spouted this shit first needs a big lawsuit on their hands.

Media irresponsibility is what turned it from a mild event to a nationwide hysteria

This one's been your best yet for all sorts of reasons. I enjoy your countdown vids but this one was proof to me that you really are a skilful and intelligent broadcaster. I agree with you that it arose from an irrational assessment of an announcement which led to a few taking "pre-emptive" action triggering and escalating further irrational action through peoples' raw anxiety receptors and then it snowballing via our need to control what we can. I think perhaps a follow up of how to "de-escalate" such a chain reaction would interest me enormously.

At last! An unbiased explanation of a problem. The most damaging cause in this case is without any doubt at all IS panic buying. Parents who take their children the walking distance to school, young drivers fearing that they’ll miss out on their social scene, older folks wrongly thinking they would lose their independence etc. etc. All of this was prompted by incorrect media information.

I wish I was going panic buying petrol. That meant I could afford to fill up a tank!
Fortunately, have a diesel car, and run on used oil from restaurants.

I really like this sort of content. And you - even with a short video - in my opinion manage to make it clear and understandable. And I do think the panic buying has caused the current situation.

Hi J. I’m a goods driver. It seems to me quite simple, large companies employing cheap labour, busses 🚌 trucks etc.
Now the drivers realise and rightly so that that they are losing all there benefits of living here.
So they have gone home…. Good for them.

Mate I've never driven so economically as I have the last few days...
Like someone else mentioned, I've heard the story that it was a planned thing to shift fuel that had been backlogged due to lack of purchase over the primary lock down.
Evidently petrol has a shelf life of around 6 months, and fuel companies don't want refineries to slow production.
Best way to shift it, create a panic buy.
Just what I've heard floating about mind you.

This hysteria comes from the media, which is usually negative... Great vid JB, you inspire my videos

This has only really just hit us up here in the North over yesterday and today which is making it fun for anyone to get fuel, some petrol stations have added a limit of £30 worth of fuel per car which is all good but with current prices that wouldn't even half fill some cars, eg my car has a 10.2 gallong tank and I went to fill it up because I was down to 1/4 of a tank of diesel but because the prices around me are about 141.9 I could only get 3/5 of what I ideally wanted as I try to fill my car as infrequently as possible so that I don't have to worry about it too much

The reason for the panic was because of the media publicising it and creating the panic.

I admit I didn't know the average fill up was 25 litres.
My average in a car with a 47L tank is 41 litres and on a 65L tank 60 litres, but both tell me the range and I carry a spare or two JIC.

Running out of drivers everywhere. Had to go get my dominos the other week because they didn’t have delivery drivers lol. I have two petrol stations in my town and the lines block up the main roads into the centre, bloody chaos.

HI, Lorry driver here, not tankers but I know a few.
Loved the video, and I agree with most of it. But I have a few issues...
Firstly. Don't trust the RHA. They are a lobbyist organisation who will spout any opinion their financial supporters desire.
Secondly. There was a small supply issue that has not made the press yet. It wasn't serious, more of a "Hmm. Why is that like that?". But it prompted meetings and the number of those meetings led to some thinking there was an actual supply issue.
I am not going to tell you what it was/is, it would lead to more anxiety and more resulting panic.
Thirdly. The HGV driver shortage issue is more complicated than even the RHA know. It will manifest over the next few months in many ways, and how we deal with the issues will say a lot about us as a country. Again I don't want to give details as it would just feed the hype.

I really wish there was a way to get rational people like you together with knowledgeable people in the industry, and get the resulting videos/articles to the decision makers in the country.
If you know a way of sending private message to me I will explain more, the more info you have the better your videos will be.

Hehe its like the ghost traffic jam on the motorway caused by some body slowing down to much and everyone behind has to slow down a fraction more than the person in front

I’m really struggling tonight been to 8 different fuel stations and no joy. Going to try getting up early and hopefully beat the rush to get fuel tomorrow and some deliveries overnight. I can’t go any longer than tomorow after that I have no way of getting to work and I live 20 miles away from it 🤦🏻‍♂️
