The Future Of Hollywood & Theatres

Exciting times bleed us all. This time I'm looking at how damaging 2020 was for the Hollywood film industry and US theatres, and arrogantly predicting the future that awaits the Big Five and theatre chains. Oh my.

The last movie I saw in a theater was Sonic the Hedgehog. It might be the last movie I ever see in a theater.

Do I look at the lava lamp or the baby hippopotamus? Difficult decisions like these would be easier to make if their wasn't some guy talking in the background.

Why would I go to the movie theatre to hear a domestic dispute in the background when I can just have that in the comfort of my own home?

If this reduces overall movie budgets to the point where they have to actually write clever (or at least coherent) scripts again, it's good. Movies have only gotten bigger and dumber over the last 15 years. As for streaming replacing the theater... they're just such different beasts. I go to the theater to get out of the house. To see something without the distractions that are at home.

When's the GRS show coming back? There's literally tens of people clamoring for it

I've always loved movies but this last year...I've seen so many "stars" intent on insulting half their audience that I've mostly lost interest in the whole industry. Good news for my Kindle, which was starting to bulge from all the unread books...

When your industry collapses....
...worked in photography for 15 in printing for 10 years....went into healthcare because it was stable.
See's a multimillionaire sitting in his nice corner office bitching about US taxpayers not bailing out their collapsing business model. Doesn't give 2 💩.

its crazy how 2019 can have the biggest box office movie in history (avengers endgame) then one year later the worst box office in history happens

Don't buy digital. Pick up a physical copy. They can't take away your "license" for the media arbitrarily in the future that way

Hopefully theaters will be more inclined to put old movies in theaters more often like bladerunner or metropolis

The baby hippo has impeccable comic timing.

2 of the last times I went to theaters this happened:
I went to go buy a bottle of water during an intermission
"That will be $5.25"
"For the big one?"
"No the regular size"
". . . . . . "
"Here, take this cup and just fill it up in the sink in the bathroom"
That employee knew the prices were awful lmao.

Also I went to see a reshowing of Yellow Submarine for an anniversary,
They were just playing the Bluray, I saw the menu at the start, and half of the surround speakers were off and with how Beatles music is mixed entire multitracks were missing. Sgt. Pepper had no vocals.

The interaction between you and your dog reminds me of when my roommate's dog is sitting with me when I try to watch T.V. She just can't seem to get out of the way as I'm staring at the screen.

That dog is like "Georg, who are you talking to?"

It's amazed me that cinemas lasted as long as they have. Overpriced food, selfish fellow customers, unskippable advertising, having to actually leave your home to watch a movie, and no control over the movie. What's not to dislike?

I can only hope and expect that the hippopotamus will return, once fully grown to its current position and roll.
