The viola is an incredibly versatile instrument, not just for embellishments and ostinato lines! It’s much more soft and less “piercing” compared to the violin and I love giving them solos. Violists are alot less used to receiving love, if you give one a great part they are much more likely to put their heart and soul into it because that opportunity is not as frequent.

I agree, but only partially with what's taught in the video.
It's more a question of timbre than ideal register. A bass can sound very soft and sweet in that upper register, and the viola is softer than the violin.
If you aim for a "fuller" type of orchestration, yours is a correct one, but there were no big errors in the mistakes you displayed, just a different timbre
