So glad to see this. I feel like there's not enough YouTube coverage for this. I have mine running bare metal on my Raspberry Pi. It's been challenging for myself since I knew nothing about Linux, networking, reverse proxy, and just the basics of Jellyfin like organizing metadata. Took me a good four months to get this up and running the way I wanted, especially since remote access was important for me. There's a lot of info floating around, mostly written by people who has been doing IT for a while. That's why I'm proud of my server, because it was exhausting lol

i very much so admire both open source and Libre respecting software (Freedom) and frankly the fact that Jellyfin takes a Plugin approach is indicative of respect for end user freedom. See I like Minimalist code and Both EMBY and PLEX it seems support a lot more by default than I might actually need them to so thanks.

Damn This Guy Is Good. I LOVE the addition detail given to help users with installs (like the laptop lid-closed settings). Great Job.

Excellent detail looking forward to part 2 which as I assume is already online since this is a year old. You earned a sub on this one.

So glad you've made a video about jellyfin. I want to set up a media server and jellyfin is my default choice. so great there is a tutorial to follow. I will use an Arch based distro for the supporting system, but, in this context, that's not a major difference from your setup. Now, I have several external HDDs with data to connect and I'm not sure whether to go for a NAS or not, seeing as I have never deployed a NAS install

Brandon, I am indebted to you. I've learned a lot from your channel in just a few days since I found it. I now have a Jellyfin server running on Ubuntu and I've learned a little about filezilla and sftp in the process. Thanks!!!

I just built my home media server a couple weeks ago and was struggling to make this all work. However, today, after many repeated attempts and such, somehow Jellyfin finally started seeing my movie files and added them to the library (everything else was working great except Jellyfin would not see my files and directories). Thanks for a great tutorial and I finally learned something about Linux/Ubuntu in the process.

Good video. I tried some media servers, but this one looks like what i wanted. there is some cons, for example movies naming, but overall it's very good thing :)

This was an excellent tutorial. It was everything I needed I even went and watched your server install to make sure I was doing it correctly. Onto part 2

Good video. Jellyfin looks like a great alternative to Plex. I already got a lifetime Plex pass a few years ago and I've been super happy with it. But if I hadn't done that I'd probably be switching to Jellyfin.

IMPECABLE Timing, I was just thinking on adding emby/Jellyfin to my Pihole server

To automount disks or partitions, you can use Gnome disks and go to edit mount options, there is a setting that allows you to do that so it will be more convinient and less effort.

Since on the same server where I have installed my Emby, I also have a nextcloud instance, I just added an account there through which I now manage my media files. And that even though I installed both software in Docker. But some mounts and other trickery did the trick

When you make part 2 could you cover domains, certs and stuff like that? I have always had issues with certificates on jellyfin for some reason.

@TechHut - Great video. Going through step by step and everything is working. I have one point of confusion (so far). Is the Backup Folder on your personal machine and the place JF will pull from is the one that is in your folder in the home directory running the JF server? So 2 machines (1 backup and other copy of shows/movies)? Is that for data retention in case 1 machine goes down? I first thought they were both on the same machine and was trying to figure out why 2 copes and why you would use FileZilla instead of just a copy command. Just wanted to verify. BTW> Like you videos. Best part I like is when you go command by command and explain things and the pace is good. Have a great day and thanks for your help and work.
