One thing to consider regarding the "fake" drone shots is that drones are often banned in a lot of places you _really_ want to shoot them - like all National Parks in the US. The "fake" drone shot solves that problem. To me, that is the killer feature of 360-style action cameras. I frequent National Parks, state parks and other places that I _really_ want to use my drone but can't - so I ordered the X4.

For me, they are such different cameras that it really isn't a valid question - they do different things. If you can only get one, go with the one you know you need. For me, I already have a GoPro 40 - which I plan to continue using.

This is my first 360 camera(x4). I will say that after I bought it I suffered from editing intimidation.I did try the AI but sadly it really limits the length of your final outcome. I wish there was an option to select the length of the AI video. Overtime I have become more educated simply by watching videos like yours. Where at one time my primary camera was my DJI Action. That now has become the x4. I appreciate you and others that provide good detail on how to edit in Pro mode. Also options of capturing with the 360.

Resolution does matter, but I still feel that what you film, the way you film, and the way you edit make a video interesting. I try to compose interesting shots in a traditional way even though I have a 360 camera. The 360 workflow allows me to make small adjustments I can't make with a traditional camera. I don't care if it's gopro or insta360 that makes a better 360 camera, but I need a 360 camera.

Insta360 X4 is currently my favorite camera. just set it and forget - has the top specs so far; still waiting for GoPro's next rendition of its Hero Max (which I still have); have used the X4 for my road and mountain biking adventures and on other occasions.

The biggest difference (excluding output qualtiy) is the editing process...in my experience, it takes 3-4 times longer to edit my Insta360 video.

X4 for me, more versatile imo. Unfortunately bulky and heavy is really the only downfall. To be able to frame your shot later is the future of cameras, resolution will just get better and better.

I had a old Samsung Gear 360 camera that still works but there is no software to stich anymore. I am thinking about getting the Insta360 Pro X4 for my incoming vlogging trip to India and the rest of Asia.

The X4 requires a lot of practice to know what kind of shot it excels at. If you use it like a modern action cam you would be infinitely better off with the Ace Pro 2. Although billed as 8k, I find myself rendering down to 1440p. It depends on the light and how many sensor pixels are in frame. It is easy, during processing, to compose shots that look like resampled 320p. That's not the fault of the camera, its the power of the app that lets you do too much and ought to have a way to let you know the number of sensor pixels in your frame.

The app is excellent - I use Insta360 Studio on Windows. I find it quick and easy.

Don't expect an action cam. Use it for the creative shots, the pans and rotations and boom shots. The tracking shots. Many people do use it as an action cam, but that is not its strength.

I bought it to use as a solo traveller as a fast-grab camera for times when I just want all-the-stuff, but I also take the Pocket 2 and my S24+ for the more conventional shots.

i want to like the x4 but its got too many downsides for me

For me the 360 cameras have always been for gimmicky social media shots, and not for more serious work. But I'm starting to change my mind on that, the X4 is a big leap forward. Thanks for sharing.

Which of them would be best to watch the 360videos in VR?

Problem is that, when you have 2-3 cameras, and one of them is instax4, and you record in 4k on hero and 8k on insta wide lens, when you crop it it downgrades to 2.7k on insta, thus making video quality lower than the hero, so ....insta is not ideal for now, although great for wide lens image.

i would like to run it with a powered selfiestick for up to 4 hours roadtrip with the gps data in 1 file instead of many 30min, like on my X3.

I'm just looking for a camera to use while on my bike for safety, a sort of dash-cam style use only, you know, to have myself covered and everything recorded. Is a 360 cam even something I should be looking for for this use? It is an electric bike, so I should be able to record throughout my entire time riding right? But maybe a simple wide angle (fishbowl) style cam is all I really need. Please let me know camera and safety experts
