Having done this task many times I humbly offer this advice:
1. Use a razor knife to scrape any remaining silicone or adhesive off the LED contact traces so the solder sticks faster without burning and makes a nice tight puddle
2. Lay all components out on a flat surface and use adhesive tape to keep everything in place
3. Use a silicone or hot glue to insulate contacts
4. Use two sizes of heat-shrink tubing, one sized for the wires and one to fit the LED strip, apply while silicone or glue is still fluid so excess squishes out.
5. Apply silicone/heat shrink to the far end of the strip

6. Don’t trust the factory adhesive, it has a tendency to loose adhesion with time and heat. Use double-sided foam or butyl adhesive tape

Looks professional, costs pennies but earns pounds.

Discovered that trick the other day, putting your iron in a vise, it's so much easier for soldering fiddly cables

I live dangerously I hold the iron between my knees but this video gave me an amazing idea flex arm mag base with some sort of clamp on the end for holding the iron when working on machines. Mint video

I often lay the soldering iron off the side of the bench with a weight on it, works great as you have shown

Find soldering so therapeutic, but the preparation is key!

When you do this for a living they sure make it look easy .

I always use mine to hold the part itself, that's a good idea holding the iron in place with the jig instead.

I've done this in the garage in a pinch, put the iron very gently in the vise and that way it stays in place.

Sometimes I really appreciate the difference between British pronunciation and American !
Brit ; _sole_ - dering
US ; _sod_ - ering

Didn’t even know the tape prep solution was a thing! Good to know :)

Best idea ever to put the iron in a jig I’ll be doing that from now on

Tape the LED strip down on the bench, pre-tin the wires and tape the cable down in position too, and then you can just solder them together easily even with just one hand. Did this myself the other day and it worked perfectly every time.

In America, we have a little desk thing with 2 alligator clip arms and a magnifying glass, to hold the 2 items you're soldering while YOU hold the soldering iron and solder. They're called "helping hands" and cost like 4 bucks. Fully adjustable and weighted, they even sell ones that clamp on the desk.

Thus is great because you can easily avoid fires this way! But even better, have it slide on magnets on a plate thats on 2 hinges with an extractor on top.

...or you could just put something heavy enough to hold the led strip and wires down on the table while you solder. You could also get a piece of tape to temporarily stick it to the table. That way you can focus more on adding solder to the pad and not the tip. You could also add some extra flux so it makes a better connection

I use something called a helping hands when I solder aero space connections (amphenols)
