Around 20 years ago, they visited my property & threatend my daughter on our doorstep for saying that she didn't have a TV licence after admitting to watching a TV sometimes. She did not allow them access & was cautioned .She was 14 . They wrote down her DOB, address etc & sent her communications . We recieved all of the letters of threat & duly went along to attend court on the date at Richmond upon Thames magistrates court .My now 15 yr old daughter & myself took along a letter of disgust from her then head teacher, about her studies were being compromised & how her mentsl health had been affected due to the actions taken by them .The trial in the afternoon was attempted to be cancelled & withdrawn by TV licencing with a very weak sorry, due to submissions to the court ballifs by myself & my daughter with our now evidence given. I refused not to go to trial & insisted on it going ahead just on principal, on her behalf . They were laughed out of court .Made to pay my time off of work & expenses & then further ordered to also pay my daughter compensation of £500 for stress & inconvienience .
They also offered me a free 1 year licence included in the compensation, that I did not require.

I have a letter from TVL that I reported to the police as a malicious communication and after I read them the contents of the letter they deemed it to be blackmail and started an investigation. Then when they eventually realised the letter was from TVL they sent two PCSOs to my address to inform me that it wasn't blackmail anymore !!! The whole incident was recorded btw. I have 52 letters collected so far.

The TV License authority should be held accountable for the reckless environmental damage they have been causing for decades. So much waste just to intimidate law abiding people.

I don't have licence to sell alcohol and I don't need to declare when I am going to buy it or consume it. I don't have a TV licence, a television, receiver or recording equipment and don't need to tell anyone I don't need a licence. Why would I need a licence for something I don't own, need or use?
The problem with this country is that everyone is considered to be criminal first until proven otherwise and as such, we live in a penal colony where condemnation is the weapon against our nation.

The tonnes of waste paper they generate every year should be illegal. I have a vacant flat next to me and there's a pile about 30cm high with letters from them.

‘You will not hear from TV Licensing for a period of time’.
In my case this was 12 months. Since then (3 years) I have had threatening letters every month addressed to ‘the householder’ even though they know my name.
I regard it as high-pressure marketing, no more.
Why is it allowed? I was without a car for ten years and don’t remember the DVLA behaving like this.

I have been licence free for 15 years and never declared.
And any letters I get are always addressed to 'The Occupier'

This is what I hate the most about the whole TVL scenario. All the TVL correspondence and action is predicated around the assumption that having a TV Licence is the default state and that if you don't have one then you have to do something about it.

I never correspond with TVL. I had someone turn up at my door one day. I explained that I am in no way obliged to communicate with them. I stated that I revoke their implied right of access, and closed the door. I have not received any correspondence or had any attempted visits since, and that was 8 years ago.

I agree, if you're playing a straight game and not watching live TV or i-player, you're under no obligation to declare, you can just burn their letters and tell their inspectors/salespeople to go away and shut the door in their faces. There's nothing they can do. They need evidence to get a warrant.

Would not touch their website with a barge pole, reason:

They require your name, address, phone number and email address - and they don;t need your details if you don't need a TV licence.

Note the BBC do not collect the licence fee itself, it is entirely done by Capita that wonderful Conservative party contributing company who gets all the government contracts regardless of how useless they are and how many laws they break ... they outsource the enforcement and cold calling ... previously to India (but that entire operation was closed down due to a Panorama investigation, that found they were horrifically illegal) ....

I declared no tv license needed, and for 3 years I heard nothing. I then renewed my declaration recently and now get threatening letters, despite being declared as not needing a license!

I Naively filled out a NLN and after just a few months got just as much BBC crap through the door as I did before. Now that my 'Licence to Not Have a Licence' has long since ran out, I'm waiting for these salesmen to turn up at the door. When they do, I'll be applying Chilli Jon's methodolgy which is to: Open the door, ask "Who are you?" reply "No Thanks" and close the door. I'd suggest everyone else equally affected, do the same and absolutley, no more.
Just to clarify, I cancelled my Virgin TV subs prior to raisng my NLN, I DO NOT watch live TV or IPlayer.
