Plot twist:
The Great Pyramid was just a film set as well. 😂

It's from DeMille's first production of 1923 (his 1956 version was a remake). Back around 1991, I met a physicist named Lambert Dolphin who had become aware of this forgotten graveyard of cinematic art a few years earlier and was helping to raise interest in excavating it. If I'm not mistaken, he had surveyed the site with ground-penetrating radar. There's a museum at the site, the Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes Center, that now houses some of the pieces.

Wow! Although it's from a generally contemporary source, there's still some historic value to this find. Cecil B. DeMille's original silent version of "The Ten Commandments" was an epic & unprecedented undertaking production like no other. His technicolor, moviestar-studded remake with Charlton Heston that we all see on TV around Easter is absolutely timeless, but his original version is a masterpiece of silent cinema & it's amazing that relics from that production have been unearthed.

The 10 Commandments was a masterpiece of quality filmmaking

The amount of waste in Hollywood is truly ironic. Countless truckloads of sets and props I've personally delivered to the dump when I worked for a studio storage company. "Cheaper than storage costs".. bs man.

This is just a cover up to hide the fact that Egyptians used to live in the Grand Canyon 😂

In 4050 archeologists will think humans were like Mr Bean

The director was an idiot. It could have become a great tourist attraction!

Yep you can still see parts of the old set. This is at Guadalupe Dunes. Used to live 15 minutes from there. Very beautiful area.

The plot twist…despite learning of this archeologist still dated the artifacts to be 1.3 billion years old 😂

Descendents of the DeMille Dynasty still live in California, and many Cecilians in Las Vegas, and as far east as New Jersey.

A copy of the screenplay for "The Bodyguard" was underneath the sphinx's head.

Imagine if this is all what history has ever been. Demolished film sets over thousands of years.

I can’t be the only one who’d love to put a piece of that in their garden.

How am I just now hearing of this??? Even just being movie props, they are still extremely important historic artifacts!

Cecil B. DeMille. Best movie ever. He had intended on making the whole Bible into movies but passed away before getting barely started.
