I talk about this with my ancient civ students every year. We go through different theories regarding where the Sphinx came from and what it’s purpose was. They always get real into it.

The fact that the proportions were way off, smaller head but the Pyramids were super perfect in all the maths and alignment even in astronomical alignment. I think the Pyramids were as old as the Sphynx, Egyptians just inherited the place and put their own arts but it belongs to older advanced civilizations.

The craziest thing about history to me is that there were just normal people who lived nearby who knew exactly how the pyramids were built and what the sphinx actually looked like back then. Like there were living breathing people leading their own lives in that place. Imagine in 2000 years when the base of the Statue of Liberty is discovered with the bottom 15% of the statue still remaining but heavily eroded. We know exactly what is looked like and everything about it but those future people would be confused about what it could've been.

That's one of the other reasons some ppl believe it's actually a lot older, because over time the stars are no longer in the same place.
