The fact they even tried to stop the unionization is just further proof that epic games was going to milk the site for all it was worth and then move on to the next victim like a vampire. The fact it's a video game corporation was the first sign, the fact it's epic games is the 2nd.

A new grass roots bandcamp will spring up I hope. As a struggling artist I survived for 2 years off bandcamp during lockdowns. I'm grateful for Bandcamp but it could be done a lot better in my non-web developer opinion. I'd like to see more download options and better mobile integration to say a few things. The best thing I learned from Bandcamp is the power of building an email list and how to use that email list effectively without flooding people with music. I gave a lot of music away for free and only few songs and projects I ever charged for. Bandcamp also taught me the strength of having a small yet devoted following of supporters and fans. Made me realize how much responsibility any artists living on their work have and a tiny tiny tiny taste of how major artists influence people.

Unionized workers are happier workers and happier workers are more productive workers. Smart management would want their workers unionized because then workers will be more invested in the long-term success of the company. Union-busting management is incredibly short-sighted and shoot themselves in the foot. Either that, or they don’t care about long-term success and are only concerned with nefarious, ulterior motives.

If you're not unionised, you are doing yourself a disservice, _especially_ if you live in a country with exploitative and/or lacking workers rights (like the US).

0:45 if Bandcamp ISN'T past its heyday with regards to usability on the site, that's very disappointing. The user interface for artists is fucking awful and I can never find anything in the artist dashboard; I literally can't tell from logging in and looking around the dashboard whether or not one of my bandmates has already uploaded an upcoming release because there's no navigation, nothing is labeled, and there just plain doesn't appear to be any section for artists to go in and edit details on their releases (I'm sure there is one somewhere, but I'm a highly experienced computer user and also a web developer so if I can't find my way around a user interface, I think that says some very bad things about that user interface)

Screw Epic Games. They totally neglected Rocket League’s issues and core fan base and now the game and items you get for free are awful.

Not surprised this is where they’re going with Bandcamp… very sad to see.

Tencent owns 40% of Epic Games, from my time in China, I knew several people who had worked at Tencent and they all complained about terrible working conditions, even in the context of the Chinese gaming industry. I wonder how much this "light" union busting comes all the way from Tencent?
