Too bad all of the common air pumps on the market don't have built-in adjustments so that we could just use less electricity and make the pumps last longer.

I find a far more effective way to muffle the bleed air is to connect it to an external air stone.  Simply connecting up more tube doesn't do anything to muffle the air to my ears, in fact it sounds like a kid "playing music" through a cardboard paper towel roll. But an external airstone - magic.

Just saw this and within few minutes made one for my fry tank, as I don't have a T, I used a Y from my inventory. Excellent & simple idea, that valve kept me worried for the air pump going bad anytime.
