In this Lay It Down guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play this great 80's hard rock classic in it's entirety.

The tuning is Drop D tuning. That is, starting from the 6th string, D A D G B E.

The opening riff is one of my favorite hard rock riffs of all-time. The riff is played during all of the chorus sections and contains some pretty significant stretches, forcing you to play with proper fret-hand positioning in order to play it.

Guitarists Robbin Crosby and Warren DeMartini play some very cool riffs throughout the song, at times splitting them up into dual guitar roles that compliment each other very well.

I will take you through each riff of the song, demonstrating both guitarists riffs in the order that each appears on the original recording.

I will also show you how to play Warren DeMartini's guitar solo note-for-note. This solo is very musical with just the perfect amount of flash thrown in there.

Have fun learning this classic! Carl...

LOVE early Ratt. They were my introduction to metal, and while I later discarded them for heavier bands like Mercyful Fate, Celtic Frost, the big 4 of Thrash, etc, I still go back to them every now and then. Incredible guitar duo.

Since we're doing Ratt, how about Way Cool Jr? A great bluesy riff.

If you see any of these videos talking about ‘top 80’s riffs, ’ that doesn’t include this, it’s not quite legit. If you were playing guitar in that time, this riff was being tried by almost EVERYBODY. Good breakdown of it here.

Warren has some great melodic riffs, this being one of the best.

Yess, more of the 80s. I think guitar tone and playing in general peaked in the 80d and we've been trying to catch up ever since.

You keep mentioning the main riff. My band currently plays this song and, oh boy, this is one of my absolute favorites of our nearly 40 song set! In my opinion, that opening/main riff is one of the best of all-time. I said what I said. >.<
