Justin Trudeau announces massive drop in immigration targets

Canada has unveiled a new immigration plan that will pause population growth over the next few years by lowering immigration targets.

I live in a small Ontario city of 165000 people and I read in the local paper that over 500 are now homeless. When you go downtown you see them standing on every street corner. Trudeau is to blame

It's not a massive drop. It's still significantly higher than it was prior to Trudeau. And it ignores all the other avenues of immigration. CTV reported that we had 435, 000 enter in only three months last year. The 500k quota only accounts for one variety of immigration. It doesn't consider refugees, foreign worker contracts, foreign students, or illegal immigrants.

So sure, while 100, 000 less from 500, 000 seems significant, it's more like 100, 000 less than 1, 700, 000 and that's if Trudeau even goes through with it. It's the 2025 - 2027 immigration levels plan, so it might only come into effect after the 2025 election, and then, if he somehow manages to hang on to power, he will announce that his re-election means Canadians support his agenda, and will scrap the plan.

It’s a scam, what changed if he replaces permanent residents to temporary residents? It’s worse because people who illegally moved in will now have the priority over future legal immigrants.
