The years have indeed been kind to The Cage...c'mon, production wrapped ca. 1964 and was duly regarded in light of what Stateside TV thought science fiction truly was way back then...but every time I view this digitized do-over I'm glad my introduction to the original was by way of its "film-within-a-film" treatment in The Menagerie. If memory serves that in and of itself was quite innovative for Stateside TV drama and certainly kept the prime-time viewership on the hook for at least another week.

It's a pity that Star Trek didn't carry on in the same vein as this pilot version instead of the many ridiculous episodes to follow.
