“Um, Bookmarks because we’re not barbarians, are we?!” Made me laugh 😂

OMG "we're not barbarians are we....?" Best line ever.

Ooh, I love these things too! I always pick up so many great recs from other people's answers :)

1. How many books are too many books in a series?
I like trilogies, but if the story warrants it I'll happily go along with more

2. How do you feel about cliffhangers?
Depends on how they're executed. If they feel cynically manipulative, I dislike them, but well done can be wonderful

3. Hardcover or paperback?
Paperback for fiction

4. Favorite book?
Tough question, I've loved so many and for so many different reasons. 'Three Day Road' by Joseph Boyden is definitely up there as an all-time favourite, although some issues have come to light about the author since I originally read it

5. Least favorite book?
Great Expectations

6. Love triangles, yes or no?
If they fit the characters, yes. If they're shoehorned in to be edgy, no

7. The most recent book you just couldn’t finish?
Budapest Noir by Vilmos Kondor. I just couldn't get into it, although that was in the middle of my reading slump, so I may give it another try!

8. A book you’re currently reading?
The Man Who Died Twice by Richard Osman

9. The Last book you recommended to someone?
Felix Ever After by Kacen Callender. I wish books like this had been around when I was a baby-dyke in the 90s!

10. Oldest book you’ve read? (Publication date)
Does Beowulf count? An epic poem rather than a book, but the codex it's in dates to approx 1000CE, and the story itself is probably much older

11. Newest book you’ve read? (Publication date)
Swimming in the Dark by Tomasz Jedrowski

12. Favorite author?
Armistead Maupin

13. Buying books or borrowing books?
Both!

14. A book you dislike that everyone else seems to love?
The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt

15. Bookmarks or dog-ears?
Bookmarks, although I admit I used to dog-ear when I was a child

16. A book you can always reread?
I'm going to cheat and say a series: Tales of the City, the first six books (I wasn't keen on the recent-ish releases)

17. Can you read while hearing music?
Like you, usually not but instrumental if I have to

18. One POV or multiple POVs? (POVs = point of views)
Either can be good, but I'm not a big fan of the omniscient narrator

19. Do you read a book in one sitting or over multiple days?
Depends on the book :)

I love book tag videos! It’s a nice way to get introduced to older books.
I recommend the Bob the Bookerer End of Days tag if you’re interested.

I just saw this and love your thoughtful answers. Joyce Carol Oates-I’ve been wanting to read her books. I’ll watch your video.

Very nice video, thank you! It's funny to hear how you feel about The Secret History. I read it on my mother's recommendation when I was 17 and it kind of shook my world. And then I bought it for myself as an adult but I'm afraid to re-read it because I think the effect would not be as strong. Maybe it would be best to keep it as a memory!

Selective answers: Currently rereading Deacon King Kong for the book club I moderate. Such a good book. Newest book I read is The High House by Jessie Greengrass, which was only published in the US on January 4. It’s also the book I’ve most recently recommended. Book that I disliked that everyone loved is Where the Crawdads Sing. Bookmarks always! I borrow about 3/4s of the books I read from the library where I work and buy the others. Hearty congratulations on 25, 000 subscribers!! Well deserved! And those bookcases are stunning!

I love Joyce Carol Oates. Mainly her short stories. I'll check out your video on her. Thanks for this!

I love this. I was answering along with you and will have to watch this again. It gives a lot of insights into how you read. For instance, I never dog-ear a book. Instead, I use the book receipt as a bookmark so if I go into a bookstore I can prove the book is mine and I'm not stealing it. Also, I don't lend books anymore because no one ever returns them or they get annoyed when I asked them to return it months after lending it. I'll stop here or this will be too long a comment. Thanks for this delightful video.

Thanks to you I read my first Joyce Carol Oates book in 2021 - The Doll-Master and Other Tales of Terror. That was a great read! And I think I need to put "Bookmarks - because we're not barbarians, are we?" on a bookmark. LOL

Congratulations on the 25k subscribers. Just a month ago I read The Waves. What a beautiful writing! I loved it. It is a book I see myself rereading again and again. Previously I loved Woolf's Mrs. Dalloway. I'd love to read more of her books if they are all as deep as these two novels.

Didn't think I'd be getting called a barbarian this morning haha! I'll accept it though. Personally if I can still read the words, the condition of the book doesn't matter. Also I always have quotes and passages I go back to constantly and the only way to easily find them again is to highlight or dog-ear!

What a great and lovely vid. I've enjoyed it SO much. My bookstore is so happy with me as since I've 'met' you, his sales has skyrocketed 😅 Thank you for this Q&A as well!! Hopefully you will consider doing a whole vid on diversity and inclusion, if you already did, so sorry, but then I've missed that for now. Keep up the great spirit and great vids. Love and Light 🌟👏🏽

It’s quite funny how I’ve read Joyce Carol Oates Journal but I’ve never read any of her books. I love reading writers diaries, so I know so much about her, but I haven’t read anything else
