Hikaru: Prepares a weird opening
Also Hikaru: Why do people prepare?

Bobby Fischer warned us and we ignored him.

I wish a change could come to chess so people don't have 50 moves of theory on their fingertips for every possible fucking move

Funny how he sounds like Bobby Fischer now, even though he denied all of what Bobby said just a year or two ago

This is the exact moment Hikaru became Bobby fischer

"I play this dumb opening hoping no one knows it and am mad they do"

I remember Bobby talking about this problem. Seems very correct. And it explains why Magnus does so well playing piles of bad openings on his channel. They are in theory not great openings but people are so deep into rote chess that he does well simply starting out bad and outsmarting everyone.

I mean common, you just realized this, Bobby invented chess 960 because of this! He hated people preparing 30 different sidelines for countless moves in every opening he played. It killed the fun and all creativity out of chess until he came up with a brilliant solution. I hope one day chess 960 will be more popular than classical.

And one thing I hate about chess is how weird the knight is

What sport isnt about preparation. Preparation is everything in pretty much every sport. A top runner wins because they trained, without the training they are nothing. Teams win because they practice. There is not a single sport where preparation is not at least 90% of winning.

So you’re allowed to study a weird opening but they’re not.

The more i play chess the more i see alot of people arent great at it they just memorise openings and routines instead of being creative with their play.

Theres only a handful that can do this
Magnus is the best of these very few special talents.

Also, maybe I know nothing, but Nc3 Bd3 looks like pretty natural development to me, not even necessarily prepared.

he says that but he's also one of the people who studies specific lines to the nth degree so that he can win up against wesley and magnus. Which is fair since they are world champion level. I just dont think the complaint is worth mentioning. Ever since bots and AI have been introduced into chess, the average knowledge of chess players sky rocketed and high level play requires much much more prep than many years prior, especially when you see the same 20 people in high level, they all know each other and their playstyles so they have to prep a lot and maybe bring some new line to the table to spice things up.

Hikaru sore that two other GMs studied a line he studied.

I like 600s. I blunder my queen and they spam 😂 at me just for them to do it 5 moves later 😅😅 it's greats

I prepped this opening and it's annoying when my opponent prepped a response

It's funny because this is the same mentality which has happened to any game which spiked, Ninja said this about Fortnite when he couldn't destroy them. Somebody who played with Hal said this about Apex. Every game which sees a rise in skill level for some reason always gets called unhealthy.
