Government economic policies are based on a model of an industrial economy. Even for that economy, at best the model captures some of the more significant themes of an economic system that is too complex for any simple model. That economy is fading into the past. The Western European control over the industrial economy enable Western European people to dominate the world. That era of several centuries is also fading into the past. The political system at least in the United States and Britain is failing to achieve the kind of consensus that is needed for effective government. There is no sign of a political consensus in the United States capable of moving beyond current American economic difficulties or the pervasive assumption among the American elite that it has some kind of right to rule the world. Western European people and their colonists were responsible for some of the most destructive behavior in human history during the 1940's. In recent history the United States has been the nation that relied on war and other forms of aggression in its effort to force the world's people to submit to American dominance. This whole history does appear to be headed for a period of some kind of large scale instability. But, only those who live through it will know what it turns out to be.
