If you cut the line why not just tuck it under the bail and go back to normal?

make sure you unscrew your spool over the side... so if it drops, it's lost overboard.

I can't believe anyone would cut their line to fix this! But ffs don't do this standing beside the gunwale.

I can’t recommend NOT doing this any more than I am here. There are many small parts inside a fishing reel and including; thin springs and multiple potentially clear spacer washers on the main shaft underneath the spool. The last thing you want to do is drop that in the creek or overboard. If it’s as simple as cutting your line and rethreading through the eyes, WAIT TILL YOU’RE HOME AT A TABLE!

Or you could just pull it under and not cut it or do that..
