Depressed Dog Chained to Tree in Blazing Heat Without Food, Water, or Shelter

By the time Renegade was rescued by Animal Control, his entire life was limited to a two-foot radius around a tree.

This poor boy was chained to a tree branch and abandoned in the dirt without any food, water, or shelter. Of course, Renegade was trapped in the scorching summer sun during an excessive heat wave that created dangerously hot conditions of more than 114 degrees.

Renegade arrived at the local animal shelter suffering from extreme dehydration and infested with parasites. He is so skinny that his bones are protruding out and causing painful sores all over his body.

Renegade tested positive for Ehrlichia, a bacterial disease that causes fever, bleeding, poor appetite, and lethargy. It's a disease dogs get from ticks. The disease can be severe and sometimes needs months of treatment. With prompt, appropriate antibiotic therapy, Ehrlichia can be cured. However, antibodies may remain present in his blood for years after successful treatment.

Sadly, Renegade also tested positive for heartworm, a serious and potentially fatal disease caused by a blood-borne parasite. The most obvious clinical signs of heartworm disease are a soft, dry cough, shortness of breath, weakness, listlessness, and loss of stamina. Renegade needs to be treated with an injectable drug treatment designed to kill heartworms and an antibiotic to combat bacterial injection. Complete rest is absolutely essential after treatment.

Renegade was so miserably depressed in the shelter that he started becoming unresponsive and shying away from attention, so we brought him to Dallas Dog RRR for his own physical and emotional safety.

We are doing everything in our power to help Renegade but we operate solely on donations and are running low on funds. We're relying on our generous supporters to help raise enough money to pay for his critical medical care.

Please consider helping little Renegade by donating to his medical fund or sending a get-well gift from his wishlist, such as food, treats, and supplements. Dallas Dog RRR is a 501c3 nonprofit organization and all donations are fully tax-deductible.
