After it was fixed in the newer trailers, a fan asked the director, Steven Caple Jr., if Optimus' face was based off of the voice and legend behind the voice, Peter Cullen, and he said yes. While not many people like the face idea, I'm glad they gave Optimus a thing to remember Peter Cullen by.
