Vinesh Phogat returned to Balali, her native village, amidst much fanfare late on Saturday night after arriving at New Delhi’s IGI airport in the morning, marking her return to India after a heartbreaking Paris 2024 Olympics.

The grappler was disqualified from the Games on the morning of her 50 kg gold medal match after she missed weight by around 100 grams during the weigh-in. Vinesh went on to announce her retirement from the sport shortly after.

A visibly grateful and emotional Vinesh addressed the media and the people of her village.

Its sad but the rules are very cut and dry. If youre above youre above. She was 100gm above while sickly dehydrated. Means she was atleast an actual 500 likely.

I feel sorry For you illégal disqualification by olympics 2024. This should have never happened and allow you to compete. You are allowed to bring lawsuit against Olympics committee For the illegality, humiliation, the emotional impact and the unjust you received as a athlète representing India 🇮🇳. Dont give Up on your dream to compete again. Beleive in yourself and KEEP the hope Alive 😃👍🇮🇳
