Wrestler Vinesh Phogat Appeals Against Olympic Disqualification, Seeks Silver Medal | Paris Olympics

In a big blow to India's chances of winning a Gold medal, Vinesh Phogat was disqualified from the women's 50kg wrestling final at the Paris Olympics. The 29-year-old was found ineligible to compete on the second day as she was found 150 gram overweight during the weigh-in on the day of the final.

Unfortunately, Vinesh Phogat will not win any medal at the Paris Olympics, if the disqualification stays. Despite the best efforts from Vinesh Phogat's team on Tuesday night, the wrestler missed the weight on Wednesday.

It was really saddened to hear the decision of the Olympic Games Authorities concerned in Paris to take the drastic decision to disqualify the young energetic promising Wrestler Ms. Vinesh Fogot of India from the Category of 50Kgs Final Olympic Wrestling Bout on 7th Aug.'24 morning even after her becoming successful enough in the two Wrestling Bouts continuously on 6th inst., due to a very tiny over weight of 100 Grms. The question of over weight of 100 grms might have caused due to the heaviness in the abdomen because of her restless continuous participation in the two Wrestling Bouts on the previous day to qualify for the entry in the Final 50 Kgs., Wrestling Bout. It should be appreciated that Ms. Vinesh Fogot had even cut short of Her hair to bring her weight to the minium permissible mark of 50 Kgs.

The decision of the Paris Olympic Games Authorities concerned is really cruelsome, disgusting, disgraceful and beyond any imagination which had put the Indian Contingent in dismay and it had also caused mental agony and harrassment to the Indian Wrestler Ms. Vinesh Fogot and her expection of procuring a Gold Medal in the Wrestling Bout for Her country India has totally forfeited and ruined. This ugly incident will mark an unpleasant unfaded entry in the History of Olympic Books of Records for ever.

The promising Iconic Indian Wrestler Ms. Vinesh Fogot even after missing out her Gold Medal in Paris Olympic Games in Wrestling Bout for no fault of her, she had kept the image of India at all time high and all Indians are proud of her and feel highly honoured about Her performance and wish all the very best in Her future sports career.

It is also necessary to take into consideration that a laid down permissible Yardstick of Plus or Minus (+-) in Body Weights of the Contestant in any category of games may be allowed and no disqualification of any participating candidate after their performance in any Game for the reasons of overweight is unjustifiable and it is an injustice and unfair attitude towards the promising contestants of the Games.

3. lf all were clean till the last bout a 100g extra is a machine error.and the Olympic spirit must be upheld - the candidate must not be punished !

Why are you begging for medal? Rules are meant to be followed. In 100 meters Sprint Jamaica lost by 1 by 1000th of a second. Should they also demand gold? What you are doing is ridiculous. Have some respect for discipline in sports.
