The year is 2035. UK is still trying to leave the EU and Starcitizen just lunched Alpha 123.1

Prepare for the haters and death threats, at least that's my experience.
I spent a lot of money and time supporting the game, and I'd love it to succeed, but I had to step away because every video I made ended up with a toxic subset of the community causing trouble.

You people just don't understand Chris Roberts's long-term plan. Star Citizen was never meant to be a _futuristic_ game. It's in fact a _historical_ simulator of how things were 70 years _before_ the game's actual release date.

I always like to say that Elite Dangerous is set in 3305, while Star Citizen will *launch* in 3305.

By the time SC comes out, it will actually be a historic flight sim.

We will all be living in the setting of Star Citizen before Star Citizen releases.

Who will get there first? SpaceX to Mars or Star Citizen launch date?

Star Citizen is going to be the gold standard example of "scope creep" for at least a generation.

<me on my deathbed>
"Finally, my labors are over"
"Grandpa, grandpa ... Star Citizen just went live !"
"Oh Death, may I have a reprieve for a year ?"
<Death> "I understand. See you in one year"

The first rule of crowdfunding. Never spend money that you cannot stand to lose. Since there are no guarantees.

I read somewhere that there would be peace in the middle east before Star Citizen will be released

Hello. OK so i'm gonna give a % personal opinion here: I'm working in the game industry as a Mocap Tech / Specialist in one of the biggest game company in the world (not to name it) and in my almost 7 years that I've been working here, I have worked on 22 released games (and still working on unannounced games as I speak).

Seeing CIG struggelling with their animations (I will only speak of what I know about), that kind of scares me a bit for the release of the game. They have been working on female animations for what, 2-3 years now and it just came out. In the last 2-3 Years I had the time to release multipple tripple A games that contains tons of animaions. I never understood their approach on the mocap sessions for the gameplay (Navigations). Here, when we need gameplay animations, we shoot both genders at the same time or so, meaning that we get all we need from the start.

CIG chose to Retarget their male animations to the female rig, which is more work than simply suiting up an actress, clean the data (tracking) and retarget the data on a female rig. You get all the proper animations, especially for the hips compared to a male hip subtile movement. Also, you have less bulkyness to fix in your animations. To me, it's a total waste of time for the employees and in the end, a loss of money, a lot of money.

In the end the game looks good but judging of what I know (animation wise), I fear all the departments are managed the same way, which might be bad for the project itself in the long term.

Again, that was my opinion, maybe i'm completly worng on their management, I'm not working there but from what I see here, I'm sceptic of the management, even more when I see stuff being reported over and over again.

Thanks for the video Obsidian.

Cheers !!

Chris said Star Citizen would be released by 2014 and we would get all the physical items. I trust him to be an enormous liar now about everything he says.

Id love to know where exactly all that money went..300million dollars is enough to buy an island with a gold plated office block with the best developers and software money can buy..also the longer a project can be carried, the more money it can generate on a regular basis..the boxer anthony joshua uses a similar tactic of stretching out the length of time he holds the belt as it keeps the money flowing..just my thoughts

What I concluded over the years is that there is too much focus on immersion and little on gameplay. Face animations, procedural cities, ice cube physics, full HD drawn ship interiors that serve no purpose, animated this - animated that, yet they have a trading system the original Elite runs circles around, you cannot explore cause the server crashes halfway through, and they have a clunky combat system. Immersion is nice but without gameplay goals people would just fly around for a week then drop the game.
