Something you probably think is strange reminded me of my grandma.
At the end of the video the sunlight and shadows were playing across your face. At 12 grandma thought I was old enough to learn to be in the kitchen with her. When she taught the shadows played. Thank you for that memory. I know silly comment.

That cheesecloth that came from you husband's Grandmother is a piece of family history that she entrusted to you. During the Great Depression there was just no money for new clothes. Every stitch was handed down or repurposed. At the time, flour was purchased in 50 lb bags, and women would use that to make dresses and such, and the embroidery was just to put a little bit of a decorative touch to it. When the flour companies figured that out, they started making their sacks with a print. It wasn't necessary, and there was no money in doing it, but women appreciated having a pattern on their dresses: it was helping your fellow in time of need. This was something she saved and kept as a memory of the hard times that she and her family went through. I think I would keep it with the patchwork quilt you might have as an example of folk art.

I am an Indian! So we make this cheese at home very often! May be you are familiar with the term “Paneer”. One thing I can suggest that you wash it with cold water so that when you will squeeze it the hot whay will not burn your hand!
2nd if you feel tired and not to wash anything right then just leave all of the equipments along with cheese cloth in water with kitchen soap. Washing will be lot easier!

Folks she is teaching and is genuine! Those of you who have to say something negative are possibly unhappy people. This homestead is trying to show how they do things and teach others their process. Why watch the channel if you just want to be crabby! I for one enjoy these hard working people who like to share experiences, so we don’t make mistakes when we try to repeat these process. SMH

Someone told me that they used store bought heavy cream because they didn’t have access to raw milk. I haven’t tried it though.

When I was a kid we made cottage cheese just by letting the milk sit out and curdle then heat till it separated and poured into an old pillowcase to drain. We'd hang them on the clothesline to get the liquid out

We call it "queso blanco" very traditional in my country and yes we add red bell peppers, spices and herbs so delicious.
We also make them into "sweet empanadas" just add sugar to the cheese and put it inside buns dough and bake like any bread

I used your video as a guide to make cheese. It turned out just like you said. I used a gallon of whole milk from the store. I tried some fresh and it seemed to be lacking in flavor. Maybe go for raw milk next time? It was more of a learning experience than anything else. It was a lot of fun for sure! Also for anyone about to try this, definitely use the flour sack towel and not traditional cheesecloth. The curds squeeze through quite easily. Thanks for the great videos!

It's odd how we forget over time, what as a child we watched grandma doing back on the farm. Much of what you show now so often was just our way of life back then. We rarely store bought much other than salt and sugar the rest we made ourselves.

I watched Kevin’s video for English muffins and wanted to share an idea, after this process is complete and you divide the cheese take one half and break it into pieces in your mixer and add a half cup + or - of whole cream, mix until smooth for homemade cream cheese then spread some on a half a toasted English muffin then top with your favorite fruit preserves. It’s a great sweet and savory snack or breakfast treat. My favorite combo is strawberry preserves on top. God bless you and your family

I just made this, in spanish it turns out to be cujada. And it turned out awesome i am so happy! I thought it was going to be more difficult than this. I just bought a quart of organic milk from mom’s grocery store and followed her instructions and i am happy. I pay $7 for this type of spanish cheese(cujada) at the grocery store and it does not even taste as good as this one i just made, also i know what is going into this just milk, vinegar and salt. Thank you so much for making this video!
